I contacted tinet.net customer service last night - they said to email noc@tinet.net with as much information as possible like when it happens and including copies of your trace routes - and they will try to trace the problem. In the mean time I am losing business each day - so please email your problems to them and I will as well and maybe they will fix the issue.

Go to the Command Prompt (under Windows 7/Vista it can be found by typing CMD, and under Win 2000/XP it can be found by going to Run and typing in CMD).

Then type "tracert autodejavel.fr"

I received an email back from NOC@tinet.net - requesting a service ID which I do not have - will have to call them again. I really need this resolved as it is hurting my business. I am a web designer - I am hosting all of my websites on one server located in the UK - but my clients - like myself - are located in the USA and many use comcast. My clients are now complaining that their websites are not working - and if I can't get this fixed quick - I will need to move almost 200 websites to a different server. As soon as I noticed a problem I started to search for a solution which is how I found this forum. I will contact Inteliquent and try to get them to open a service ticket even though I am not a customer of theirs - as this is a problem they need to deal with anyway. I will keep you informed of my progress. Megan

You will need to get your hosting service and/or their ISP involved if you want to get action taken. You are not Inteliquent's customer, and your complaints are not going to be taken seriously. Gently hinting to your hosting service that if the problem is not resolved quickly you are going to move 200 accounts from their servers has a better chance of being taken seriously.

If you and all your customers are US based, you should move the 200 web sites. The one thing that can't be fixed some of the latency due to speed of light limitations.

It isn't as simple as that - I have been with the same hosting company since 1998 ( I was living in England at the time). Although the majority of my customers are in the USA - Some of my earlier customers are located in the UK and Ireland. Because I have been with my hosting company for so long I still have the same package they offered at the beginning of their business - I joined when there was no limit on number of domain names hosted - no limit on bandwidth and no limit on space. And all at one low monthly fee. That way I am able to offer small businesses low cost websites and hosting services for very little - businesses that could not otherwise afford websites can now. Since this has begun 5 days ago I have been looking into other hosting and my hosting fees may increase to more than I am charging my customers. In the 14 years I have been hosting websites there has never been a situation like this. I appreciate the help and comments from everybody - and I understand that sometimes things happen. But I would rather not have to find a different hosting company. Thanks again. Megan

I'm with you, imagnu. Something has radically changed for the worse just 5 days ago, and like you, I wrote to tinet.net. However, all they said to me was that they didn't finad any issues with their network (see below) and sent me their tracert routing:

Yep - I agree John- it works for a bit and then stalls out. I am on it now, and it was normal, but now it's back into its crawl-speed. It only partially loads the section called "le Citrojournal," stalls, and then 30 seconds after, it fully loads.

If you look closely at their tracert - they did the test at 6:59 am - and as you and I have been saying all along is that everything works fine from 3am - noon or 1pm - it is in the afternoon and evening that the real slowdown occurs. Oh well I can only hope it will get fixed soon.

It sometimes loads and sometimes doesn't but it is very slow now at 6:32 pm est usa - even if the mail site loads when I try to log into my control panel it freezes at the username and password.

I also noticed with this tracert oneandone is also a shared route - maybe that is causing some of the hangup.

Read in depth the sites JohnInSJ See Profile has posted. The problem is the site design where it needs constant refreshes of many elements and right now some of them are failing to promptly update (could be the server or user demand)
As you note it changes at different times of day, but during the worse monments by the time the slow element is served the other elements need updating and the process starts again.
Lock your css, limit the refreshes, limit or cache the graphics and it runs pretty well for a site 8K miles away as the crow flies

I am currently designing a sample website for one of my clients - I haven't even optimised it yet as it is only a sample of a possible design and it got an 83 out of 100 on the google speed test

FWIW, even if the problem(s) you are experiencing are a "Comcast problem" (and I have seen no compelling evidence that either your problem or the OP's problem are a "Comcast problem"), the fact that you have hijacked this thread may very well have lessened your chances of getting a resolution. It is possible that jlivingood See Profile (who started out trying to help the OP), may not have even noticed that you are not just the OP (who started out as an anonymous poster) using a different anonymous name (that does happen in these forums). Sometimes when a different anonymous user hijacks a thread, those trying to help don't always notice that there are actually two separate subthreads being discussed (and the solution to both problems may or may not be the same).

Hint: If you want help, and don't want to create confusion, start your own thread to minimize the confusion factor.

I am so sorry I have been so frustrated by the problem and was so excited to find someone else (checkerboard) who was experiencing exactly the same problem I was - I honestly wasn't wasn't trying to hijack anything - I truly thought it was the same problem and it would help. My deepest appologies to everyone for any intrusion. I have decided that my best solution will be to move my websites to a different server. Please do not stop trying to find a solution for Checkerboard because of me - he can't move the french car forum - and I am sure there are other people out there who don't know why the sites they view suddenly got slow. There is nothing to apologize for; my suggestion that you need your own thread was for your benefit; it was not a rebuke.

I was just trying to explain that just because you seem to have a similar symptom to the OP does not mean that you have "exactly the same problem", and therefore, a fix for one poster's problem may not be a fix for all posters with similar symptoms.

It is just always a good idea to start your own thread when requesting help. This is especially so when you and the OP post anonymously, since it is not that unusual for anonymous posters to change their "identity" during the life of a thread, and someone trying to help may just assume that similar (but different) symptoms are being reported by the same poster.

In the above traceroutes to the OP's problematic site, and to your problematic sites, I do not see any hops using your favorite culprit (tinet.net). I do see a common transatlantic hop using Level 3 (64.209.97.13 or 64.209.107.53 and 204.245.39.158), and all of the sites go through oneandone.net routers from my Comcast connection, but traceroutes from other locations will be different.

Hi Folks, and thanks very much for all the input... I've learned quite a few things from all of your posts! Although my original post was "anonymous," I promptly enrolled afterwards, and wanted to originally, but honestly couldn't quickly find out how to register.

This really is a dilemma for any Comcast subscriber who has trouble accessing certain European web sites. And also a catch-22 for us; unless Comcast decides to apply its know-how and leverage, we affected subscribers are but lone voices in the wilderness.

So when Imagnu entreats "J Livingood" from Comcast (as I have) to please see if it can be rectifed, I see it as both understandable and proper. OTOH, trying to steer jlivingood See Profile toward an interface problem with tinet.net may possibly delay a resolution, since the tinet.net interface is not used by all Comcast connections to either your hosting service in Germany, or Imaginu's hosting service in the UK.

Since this thread started, I have accessed both your problematic site, and Imaginu's problematic site, and (as you have pointed out) sometimes an http connection works reasonably well, and sometimes an http session hangs busy for a very long time. But even when the http connection is hung, the traceroute transit times to both sites (from my location) are essentially unchanged.

After trying the same thing from both an AT&T and an Earthlink connection, my experience is that the extreme delays/hangs do appear to be Comcast connection specific. But with the raw transit times being unchanged during "good" and "bad" connection attempts, a resolution is probably not going to be easy or fast.

I've seen oneandone use TINET, GLBX and Level 3 networks in this thread from traceroute examples through different providers. The common problem areas is GLBX and it appears to be congestion/loss on GLBX overseas links. Oneandone can correct this through BGP techniques or by not using GLBX.

While NetFixer See Profile has stated "extreme delays/hangs do appear to be Comcast connection specific", this problem would be noticed on any ISP that Oneandone is reaching via GLBX.

Yes, but that doesn't seem very likely, and it could just be high latency links, since we don't know the method of connection (not satellite I hope).

The response time numbers look like what is to be expected for a trans-Atlantic connection. And I'm not certain but if they use MPLS then we are actually looking at the other end of the interface at this interconnect point.

Just to clarify, 204.245.39.158 is part of the Global Crossing (GLBX) network. Level 3 did acquire GLBX and apparently has been changing the whois IP databases; however, the router, links, etc are still part of AS3529(GLBX) and not AS3356(Level 3).
