What I don't understand is why people keep DSL because it has become the 21st century version of dial-up. Why should I pay Verizon for their exhorbinant rates ($65 a month just for phone) when I can add Internet and phone to my cable bill for not much more money than what I'd pay for cable alone. DSL is 1.5/768 where my cable modem is 50/10.
$39.95+$6.50+1.95+~$10=$52.40. Phone/Internet+modem rental+DNS service+taxes/regulatory(PUC) fees.
Comcast would be higher; but the hide their prices so well it is hard to estimate. Possibly $63+29+$7=$99. Internet (w/o TV)+phone+modem rental. Don't know if they collect taxes and fees on phone service; probably not.
I specify no TV because I am not now paying, nor have I ever paid, for TV service.
If I am forced to Comcast because AT&T abandons their copper, it will probably look more like this: $43+$29+7=$79 ... because I will settle for Comcast's
DSL"Economy" tier: 3.0/1.0 Internet. Assuming Comcast doesn't pull it when AT&T pulls their copper.
I might just have to resort to weekly visits to the library to check email, and give up a lot of other online activity unless Comcast keeps that Economy tier.
