Re: yawn I own an iPhone 4S. I relied on the maps app heavily. It is currently entirely useless to me. That's pretty bad.
It won't do transit, and despite having spent the time to try a few others, I haven't found one yet that works well enough as a replacement (TheTransitApp is a confusing and counter-intuitive mess). Some of what are probably the better ones cost money, requiring me to pay for them just to see if they're any good. On top of all that, losing street view makes it much harder to figure out when to get off a bus or find he right place.
Even for driving directions it's barely functional. I tried to get driving directions to my parents' house 25 KM away, but it kept insisting on showing streets on the other side of the planet with similar names instead of showing me the one with the name that I had entered. Eventually, I had to give it the city name just to give it the clue that "cragmore" is a half hour drive away, and not in Greece or England.
Of course, it took me 5 minutes to figure out how to even get driving directions... They don't use "from" and "to" style text boxes anymore...
In short, the maps app is a horrible disaster that is sadly less useful than the web version of google maps (despite all the limitations THAT has) -- Developer: Tomato/MLPPP, Linux/MLPPP, etc »fixppp.org | | elwoodbluesElwood BluesPremium join:2006-08-30 HarperLand Reviews:

| Many maps are like that, they look at the "simplest" point to point, vs the best.
The maps always ignore the smaller roads and focus on the major roadways.
Coming from downtown Toronto to my place, it insists upon taking Kingston Rd,but anyone worth their salt knows to take Gerrard, faster, less lights, less traffic.
However if you go past Kingston Rd the maps will take you do Danforth instead.
Same with visiting my family in Elora, it takes a roundabout way to get their. Once you've studied the maps you'll find a better route. -- No, I didn't. Honest... I ran out of gas. I... I had a flat tire. I didn't have enough money for cab fare. My tux didn't come back from the cleaners. An old friend came in from out of town. Someone stole my car. There was an earthquake....... | |
