HDD Recovery Service in South and East bay?

Hello one of my HDD has gone bye bye. Right now I'm trying the freezer method, but just in case, are there any HDD recovery services in San Jose or Milpitas you folks can recommend?

What is the ballpark cost?

Very good at what they do.

Does the drive spin at all?
You can get an online estimate from them.
What type of data and how much are you willing to spend?
Many other recovery services start at $99 just to talk to you.

Self recovery can be done by using GetDataBack software(»www.runtime.org/data-recovery-software.htm)
free version is one file at a time, purchase allows recovering many files at once.
The first thing you want to do is image the drive if possible, then work on recovery. The image saves the existing data in case the drive dies later.

More $$$ but good in SJ itself:

It will spin, or at least I hear it spin, it shsows up for about 15 minutes when I take the HDD and attach it to the USB kit.

Good, then there is a good chance the data can be pulled off.

Weird, i went to My COmputer, clicked on Manage and pulled the affected drive, it says the parititon is healthy and active?

The error I get is a I/O error. I have put the HDD into the freezer to no avail.

ANyone know how to get around an I/O error?

You can have a "healthy partition" but the I/O error says it is having trouble with read/write of the data.
HDD is ready to die?

I know, but the motor spinning it and the heads reading/writing are two different things.

You need to back up that data to another drive ASAP - while you still can!
