Customer repeater!

Click for full size
We couldnt get this one customer at his house, trees all over, no 900mhz in this direction. He really wanted service but didn't want the 68 foot tower. This silo he also owned just over a kilometre from his house has LOS to our tower (80 feet), no roof, cant walk on it, so hung off the side and installed this grid and a nano station to bounce around the trees. NS Loco 5 on the side of his house 8 feet up did the job.

We don't do this cheap either. Anyone else do these frequently?

I absolutely Effing HATE doing these... And it's for that reason I don't do them any more.

It's not bad when it's a good handful of houses, but for one client, it never fails that it handles like shit. Usually their single "option" isn't that much better than their main service point, so it's double suckage in the end.

Also most clients are willing to pay top dollar for them, until there's a problem. We make it dead clear that the relay belongs to them, and if it breaks, they pay to have it fixed. We never pay for a relay unless it's for a few houses, and in a central location that we have full access to etc. (Electrical/Utility building in a large condo complex etc)

Yea we make it clear that he owns it.

We have a handful of these out there, no issues to date.

Ja, I did that for my GM but HE made it very clear that I owned it. Also did it for a few neighbors.

Do them all the time, probably 20+ in the field, never a single service call. Those Nanos work great for these bridges

I have about 5 and call them "Creative Installs"
However i dont want to do them any more.

As said above, i dont mind if its 3+ houses and we still own the repeater, but i have decided that i cant be bothered spending a day only to get one customer connected. It might be that they pay for the labour, but in that same day i could get two customers connected and over 12 months make double the profit from the same amount of time.

What generally is taking the most time to get the "creative installs" done? Is it just that the physical installations are more challenging? Is there anything you can think of that would make this easier/faster?

Its usually the amount of time you spend trying to work out a plan.

Usually when I pull up to a house, I jump up on the roof and if i can see the transmitter, then i can start the install.

For a creative install i have to walk about for an hour and waste time trying to find sources of power, and checking line of sight from various different positions. Then you gotta quote them for the install so they then say "I'll ask my wife and let you know tomorrow"
So i also just wasted 45 minutes driving out there and 45 minutes driving back.

So 2-3 hours just to do a quote.

why not do a path calc based on their GPS coord before you even go out, to know within 80-90% if you can hit it based on hills etc.

I have used Google Earth and Ligowaves free apps to do it with very good success rate. Granted its not going to show you if a building is blocking or trees ( google earth you can see the trees but really dont know how tall) but if there are other imoveable objects like mountains in the way then you dont have to waste your time.

Even then if you want you can play around with locations in and around their property with ligowave and GPS coordinates to see if you can come up with an alternative to see your AP.

Then if it looks like it you can, then go out and look for power etc..

Beats the long drive and gas wasted at least at this point its only your time you are using up..
