anon posted : No, TWC didn't own GameTap, Time Warner/TBS did. 2 separate companies. And it was sold off to the French company in 2008, long after TWC was no longer part of Time Warner.

macdude22 posted : Didn't Time Warner try this with GameTap already? And then sold it to some french company to get gutted to a shell of its former self?

I liked GameTap, I subscribed to GameTap for several years. They had a great client, some great games, and a reasonable price. But then they started dumping games (well more likely publishers wanted more money), dumped the original content in the client, and dropped a ton of features. The last straw for me was after the transition from TWC the new company dropped the client all together for this super crappy web interface that never worked right.

It had such potential but it always seemed like Time Warner wasn't in it for the long haul and if it hadn't turned a massive profit in the first year they wanted rid of it.
