[Chat] Ideal room temp?

When the room temperature gets above 90 degrees, I begin to worry. Especially if the internal cooling of the machine is poor, or clogged with dust.

I set my fan temps to 30C and 75C. I set my RPMs to 1600.

I lived for 3 years in Tucson, and 2 of those years' summers I had no cooling for my residence. My computer survived, even when I felt ill myself from the heat.

I lived in Tennessee for another 4 years with no cooling, and run several computers ok.

Mind you, I invested in high quality heatsinks and reduced my overclock 20 percent during the hot months.

It reached 120 or more in the metal trailer home in Tucson a few times.

That was about a decade or so ago.

The heat from your computer will reduce the need to heat your room, but probably not eliminate it. It's like the heat from 2 to 4 pcs 100 watt incandescent light bulbs.

And remember, processors today, and their BIOS'/UEFI' downclock or just shut down before overheating.

Speaking of which, I am reaching 60 degrees of late on my CPU, time to open the case and clean it! Might need to redo the thermal compound too. I don't like redoing thermal compound becuase the HS sometimes gets sort of glued to the IHS of the processor and the CPU comes out attached the the HS and the pins get bent. That, of course, is not so much of a problem with Intel stuff now, with the locking down CPU socket... When is AMD gonna start doing that, or can they, maybe it is patented by Intel...

It is. The kitty reminded me about it when I got my iMac. I've used it for years on my MBP.
