On the flip side; in theory we're getting to the point where such material will not require real actors at all. In theory the actors could be simulations.

Agreed (although the concept is creepy). I would suspect that some just wouldn't get off on simulated actors, even if lifelike and realistic.

I think A lurker you hit the nail on Urbans head with your comment. Its the same with exploitation of women. Although there may be no result of you watching it in your home, the fact is many women are abused to feed the porn industry. Its a sick cycle. In the case of children they are exploited but not being adults puts them into a different category such that society is willing to go to greater lengths in their defence.......... such that even possessing the material is illegal.

Look at the perp in this news story. He was charged with owning, making & distributing child porn YET he was released back into society to commit this horrendous crime.

We really need stiffer sentences for child pornography. I don't think there is anyway a person like Leblanc can be rehabilitated.

Ahh, thanks, I missed that one in the previous articles. Too bad, homeless at 16 and confined by these sickos.

He was back with his mother in a recent local newscast from today so perhaps there is some reconciliation happening.

What I don't understand about this story:

The teen had chains wrapped around his wrists and ankles and was wearing nothing but a hooded sweatshirt and a hat when he arrived on [xxx's] doorstep.

[Mr. xxx] told CBC News he cut the chains off the boy and drove him to a house in Bridgewater.

If a kid in that condition showed up on my doorstep, I would call the police right away.

I sure wouldn't plop him in my car and drive him somewhere else. The kid could even turn around and say that I was the one who kidnapped him.

Is there some explanation for this?

PX its called Down East hospitality. People here dont assume or think evil of others or have a watch their back mentality. Its refreshing but naive when faced with the crap out in the real world sadly enough.

What needs to happen is these sickos should live on an island and never be reintroduced into society. (or at least castrate them if your going too). I know I sound like Vue, but heck read this one......... There is no rehabilitation, and thus the risk to society remains unacceptably high.......

By the way I would take the members of his last parole board and any judge involved and give them a mandatory 5 year jail term.

By they time they get to the trial all this pretrial custody time will neutralize his sentence to "time served".

Ronald James Aucoin is another example. Like David Leblanc he is a repeat sex offender who has been released back into our HRM community.

Now the kicker...HRM police have advised the public that professionals have assesed Aucoin as a high risk to re-offend in a sexual manner.

So WHY release him back into society? Surely the safety and security of our children is more important then the rights of a criminal...

Court documents say John Leonard MacKean is from Lower Sackville. He is charged with sexual assault and communicating with another man for the purpose of obtaining sex from someone under 18.

Great, looks like police already bucked-up procedure when the suspect was brought in, more fodder for his lawyer when he gets one.

Innocence lost... It destroys me knowing that there are people like that in this world. What kind of a life will that young man lead now after being abused mentally and physically like that.... It's unimaginable.

See, the problem here is that these individuals are extremely sick and deranged. Many people would love to see these guys have their own dick fed to them and then just watch as they bleed out. But from a humanitarian point of view, it would really degrade us as a society. After all, giving in to such rage is just primitive.

On the other hand, these men are mentally ill. As a result of their environment, upbringing and in no small part to genetic predispositions as well. This is no excuse, just a list of facts. The way our system is built, these guys will receive psychiatric help while they rot in jail for the rest of their lives. And that's the best case scenario for us, the people. Could be worse. Guy Turcotte, the doctor who savagely murdered both his children some years ago, has walked out of prison already. I have very little faith in our justice system.

And even if we were somewhat lucky and these lunatics ended up in jail for life, what exactly does this serve? These men can never be rehabilitated or become productive citizens in any shape or form. These sort of crimes are so hideous, twisted and batshit crazy that I'd say they go beyond manslaughter and murder in moral gravity.

One bullet to the brain, discard body in fire. Cheap and simple.
It's humane, they certainly would suffer a lot less that way than they will while they are in prison. Darwinism prevails and society is protected without the financial burden of keeping them alive for... what exactly?

They can't. These people are genetically flawed to begin with, if they're so far advanced into their disease it's just too late.

Both physical and chemical castration has proven ineffective in many pedophilia cases. It's hardwired in their brain.

It's tragic, sad and also extremely problematic. These individuals are too dangerous to be left free in society, but discerning who can be helped from those who cannot is a huge task that is just too resource intensive to be doable. Plus, what do you even do with people like him?

Life imprisonment is the best these people can hope for. And that's not much of a life.

So...there is no suitable punishment for these types of crimes?

Then what about crime prevention?
