No I never called anyone. I did look online with most people saying it cost them $300-$800 to get a real safe person and not a locksmith. Which basically comes out to be the same range I think I could sell the safe for, so if I hire someone and the safe is empty I have to sell it just to break even.
Too bad Superman wasn't around with his X-ray vision. He could view the contents, and if it's empty, you could sell it as is (not revealing it's actually empty), and the mystery as to what may be in it could probably fetch some pretty good money.

round up a few strong men tip the safe over or on its side listen if anything bounces around inside will give you an idea if anything could be in it (i stand by i expect it to be empty).
What if it's filled with something valuable and breakable?
Right. Or a 12th century, ornately-decorated papier-mâché flower from the Ming Dynasty; and a bowling ball?
Lol! Is the Bowling Ball from the Ming Dynasty as well? It may have been owned by some sort of "Zen bowling team", which would make it truly priceless.
I think the previous home owner did have the combo and know there's nothing in there. They just trolled you. After you get it open that's how you should sell it too. " I don't know the combo or what's in it" Someone won't be able to resist the challenge or thoughts of riches.

Perhaps they are among us, here, now...
I know any house I've ever been in and done any rehab work, I've written stuff inside the walls. At our last house When I remodeled the bathroom. I drew a map of the yard with a X marks the spot. Maybe in 20 years when someone rips it out to remodle they'll see it and dig up the yard.
Maybe I'll write a large matrix of numbers on the wall with various months and years written around the perimeter when we sell the house.
around the perimeter of the safe ? Then tell new owner you don't know the combo ? The new owner may be here posting a new like thread ! (this assumes you decide to leave the safe). Thread #2 the safe sage continues.
