[Connectivity] What modem to get for Performance internet

I'm planning on returning the rental modem I got from Comcast because it's having issues (the Motorola SB5101) and I want to buy a modem so I don't have to keep renting from Comcast. I've seen a lot of modems out there, so I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for a good one. I'm signed up for Comcast Performance internet (20mbps down/4mbps up).

Search forums for Zoom 5341 J. The J version has 8 channels down. About $80.

Are you SURE the modem is the source of the problems?
Couldn't just exchange it for a better one?

I'm not saying buying your own is a bad idea, but ComCast tries to give you working equipment, and sometimes it's not the problem.
Troubleshoot first, then decide on the exchange/purchase equation.

I would go with a Motorola 6121. Most Comcast systems are built on Motorola hardware but any DOCSIS 3.0 modem will do.

FWIW, 8x4 multiple bonded channel capable modems are more "future proofed" than are only 4x4 modems like the 6121.

Yup, so modems such as the Motorola 6141, Zoom 5141J, or Linksys/Cisco DPC3008 may all be a better choice as they are all 8x4.

I have the Motorola SB6121. The modem been good to me. On top of that I have a Netgear WNDR3700. Both are good and reliable to me.
