[Exchange] smtp ssl certicate help exchange 2007

I started getting error in the event log for event id 12014 and it appears we have a cert on the smtp connector of our exchange 2007 server. the server is a stand alone server, not sure if we even need a cert on this end of things. there is one on the owa and that was is functional. I was wondering if:
A) I could have the server function without this cert.
B) How would I recreate i.

Currently mail is not receiving but we can send no problem. I took a look at our outlook 2007, we get an error about the ssl like we use to, which is no big deal, but upon viewing it, it states that there is a problem and it points to our mail.domain.com ssl, i believe it needs to servers fddn cert? Please help.

Thank you

Just updating, I resolved the problem and it was due to the internal certificate expiring but upon correcting the cert isssue I was still not able to send mail. This was because the system resources were low. I had only 3gb or free space on the exchange server which interfered with the exchange services. I cleaned up the server and everything is up and running. Thanks for trying!
