Hello everyone, I recently signed up with Distributel and they are enforcing a rent or buy policy. I am currently renting their Zhone 1511A1 modem, but I have never this brand of modem before. Does anyone know the reliability and longevity of Zhone modems? It does seem to be more tweak-able and have more functionality judging by the options available, and if its reliable enough, I might just sell my ST516 and buyout the Zhone.
We use Zhone modems too. 6511's though. The modems for the most part are fine. The most recent firmware is highly recommended - fixes some bugs with link speed negotiation on the Ethernet port.
These modems are made in China. Beware of crappy power supplies. Sometimes they lose their mind and need to be unplugged for a while before the caps discharge. I think this is becoming more common with most consumer electronics gizmos that use switchmode regulators and is not unique to Zhone.
