[GOLF] Ryder Cup thread

US doing well, except for Woods, who just doesn't seem to do well in team formats.

Unfortunately, because Woods is such a TV drawing power, the US team captain won't be allowed to sit him down tomorrow for 1 of the 2 rounds, despite the 2 losses today. The sponsors just won't allow it.

I guess they did.

1st time they ever did that. But about time. He is 9-16 in the Ryder Cup when playing with a partner.

US did well again today and lead the EU 10-6 going in to the 12 single matches on Sunday. The US has to win 4.5 points to get the Ryder Cup for the US.

But Woods/Stricker made their record 0-3 and Stricker was horrible all 3 matches and Woods was so-so. They are the only US players who didn't get a win.

For the EU, Poulter won all 3 matches he played in. He is the fiercest competitor I have ever seen. He was literally foaming at the mouth a couple times during the match today and finished the round with 5 straight birdies.

US pulls an el-foldo on Sunday in Ryder Cup and couldn't get 4.5 points out of 12 to win the cup. US could only get 3.5 points, and the matches end 14.5 to 13.5 The EU wins cup. The US performance was the worst showing on Sunday by a Ryder cup team ever.

Stricker, a captain's pick by Love went 0-4.
And Woods could only get a 1/2 a point and went 0-3-1.

They should have let Dottie Pepper, an on-course reporter at the Ryder Cup, reuse the famous quote she used while covering an LPGA Soleim Cup between US and EU when she referred to US players as "choking freaking dogs".

I thought the US virtually hand their hands on the trophy, miraculous comeback by Europe and a nice tribute to Ballesteros.

You see a miraculous comeback and I see a colossal choke. I think the US had 3 or 4 guys who were up after 16 holes and all of them ended up losing. Only needed one of them to win. They should all be embarrassed and ashamed. They let their teammates down. Congrats to Team Europe. They simply wanted it more.

Their rich guys who all live on this side of the pond whopped our rich guys who also live on this side, on a golf course that would have security immediately escort me off the premises should I ever show up clubs in hand.

The thrill of victory, the agony of defeat.

I'm happy for Sevie.

Why all the hatred of Woods? If it wasn't for him nobody would have cared about golf and the paychecks would be much smaller. In his heydays he was untouched.

Actually, I think he played his way onto the team. Two years ago, I think he was a Captain's pick. If he doesn't play his way on two years from now, I doubt if the Captain will pick him, unless he's gotten hot right before the event. When he's playing well, he's unbeatable. He just hasn't played well since his little marital indiscretions came to light.

1st of all ,he's a fucking lowlife hypocrite...........and he ruins golf tournament coverage.

The moron commentators and tv stations refuse to show or talk about anyone else when he's in a tournament.

Look at all the great tournament finishes this year that he wasn't involved in...........10 times better coverage and excitement.

You'd think the bloody yanks had just won the freakin World Series when this lowlife made a putt on Saturday..........it was a joke.

I loved his sour expression of disbelief when he heard they'd just lost...............made my day.

When it comes to a sport that normally is individual play, like tennis and golf or any other sport, major or minor, Americans when forced to play as a team are without a doubt the worse chokers and poorest team performers in the world.

In some sports even when we had the very best players in the world, like in men's tennis in years past we had a hard time getting the players to even be willing to participate. Then when they did even the then number one players in the world like Connors and McEnroe lost their opening matches to nobodies. They initially couldn't handle the pressure of playing for a team or someone other than just themselves. It truly is, with no insult intended, a cultural trait of the US.

Same in golf today. The US has the best individual players overall but when having to play together for a team as a team they just are not as tough mentally as players from other countries such as those that make up Europe. That's never going to change. Oh, we will win, but not very often.
