[iO] New Guide Rollout

So I just got an email that says they will be doing work between 1AM and 6AM between now and the end of October. I presume this is the new software roll out. Also has instructions to reboot the boxes if they do not work properly after the software push.

I think it might be good to have a new topic where people can report when they get it and their opinions on it. The other topic is kinda disjointed.

Did it actually say that it's related to the new guide or are you just assuming that?

A month time frame for this seems a bit much if it was not something big like software roll out. Who knows maybe they are redoing the channel lineups too?

Here is what the email said:
It's time for a tune up.

*******************************************************

Between now and October 31st, we are doing some maintenance on the Optimum Network.

We don't want to cause any inconvenience, so the work is being done between 1 a.m. and 6 a.m. and we won't need to access your home or business.

Scientific Atlanta model digital cable box(es)
Channels will be restored automatically once the work is complete.

Samsung model digital cable box(es)
If some of your channels do not return, it's easy to fix:

-Unplug the digital cable box from its power source, wait a few seconds and plug back in.

Or

-Press the Vol+, Vol- and Info buttons on the front of the digital cable box simultaneously until it shuts down, then release the buttons.

The Samsung model digital cable box has been reset when you see the time displayed on the front.

Thank you for being an Optimum customer.

That sounds more like they're moving channels to different frequencies in a lead-up to adding additional downstream channels. They sent me that email in August when they moved some channels around.

Would that be for all models of STB's?

Yes, since the guide software and data is stored in the cloud, all of the boxes are capable of handling the new guide.

What I found interesting is that the new guide video found on the Optimum web site is also now in the "Explore Optimum" VOD channel.

Yeah had that for a while, was discussed in original thread.
Not sure why we needed second thread.
But someone will start third thread when it actually launches.

Jmartz,

It could certainly be related to the guide upgrade as CV pushes out new components used to power the boxes, such as the HTMLEngine component, etc.

While the upgrade may not mean you are going to get the new guide once its done, it may be a push and test of the individual components used to render it.

Entirely possible, but I would think they would push out the update as a whole package including any components. Not sure what the advantages would be doing it piecemeal, other than lowering deployment time at the guide's release, though that would be negated with the component releases.

It appears the Original OP is Correct:

Your new program guide is coming.

Faster. Easier. More intelligent.

We've completely reinvented your program guide to make everything about
your Optimum experience better, with a lot of exciting new choices and
features.

- Improved guide layout for easier & faster searching.
- Look back to see when programs you missed will air again.
- Use buttons on your remote as shortcuts to get directly to features like On Demand and Search.

You might see the new guide available on some of your cable boxes before others. Don't worry. We'll be updating all of your cable boxes as soon as possible. To get to the guide, press the GUIDE button or the iO button on your remote.

Old news and one does not necessarily have to do with the other. It could very well be for channel realignment or any of the other reasons previously specified.

That letter/post does not mention reboots required to get the new guide, which makes it less likely the message the OP got is about the guide (which is still coming soon based on what has been posted).

What does that have to do with new guide?
Are you guys saying you received new guide and it has no data?
Or old guide no data and making something out of nothing?

It is the same guide. None of the boxes had data this morning, needed to reboot them all and it came back. Just as the email said might be necessary.

we're not making something out of nothing.

it obviously means something that as we get news of a new guide rollout, our data in the old guide is gone.

Re: [iO] New Guide Rollout or just simple Maintenance?

More than likely it has to do with the new guide..Someone said that the new guide will be rolled out over the course of the month so it probably is for it..

I had no guide data today as well, but that was at 4 AM. It's not unusual for me to have no guide info at that time of the day (at least it was when I had the SA box) so I didn't really think it was related to the guide update.

It was the old guide and old interface.

I'll give it a reboot when I get home.

It stands to reason they would apply the same upgrades to the guide as they did with the DVR menu to bring it to the 21st century.
The guide needs the same revamp. The On Demand menu works ok already.
