Re: [iO] New Guide Rollout Well hopefully as Wilt said in the Cablevision Digital Services Yahoo Group, that next code update should fix it. I had always thought it had to do with guide data being updated at midnight for the new guide vs around 4:00 AM with the old guide. |
|
dm145 join:2009-12-12 Clifton, NJ | Yea I just saw wilts responce I thought it was a guide data push issue as well Then when looking through the guide for tomorrow and Thursday I saw the pattern. |
|
 | Amazing of all the problems people are worried about, that is the ONLY thing they are trying to fix.
More amazing that on list of 1 thru 10 of the New Guide problems , showing no data when a program goes past midnight is number 11.
Headslap |
|
 | Did Wilt say the next code push would only address that, or did he say it would include that? Amazing that someone would get mad at fixing a bug. |

| reply to milan22 I just got the guide and have only encountered this one issue
Most of the other complaints are features certain individuals don't care for , not problems, which will likely not be changed any time soon
Guess I'm used to the IOS guide which we've had for quite some time |

 | reply to frdrizzt If cv is sold to TWC the new guide and rsdvr would not last I would guess? |

 | reply to milan22 Did you also notice that even though their new guide fits an HDTV screen, it only looks like a full screen guide stretched to fill the screen. Why not a real widescreen guide for room to show more info, like you said before milan22.
But of course there are more issues as stated by previous posts which I agree with, one being the date not being shown in both the info and guide. The date is only shown when you change the date in the guide.
I could list a few other minor yet noticeable issues (not even pertaining to DVR): > Font of "NOW" programming in guide is white, but programming "AHEAD" is dim. When you view later programs, it looks dark and, while it's legible, it would be better off in white (like in the info) so it's clear as day. > Ability to return to the current channel in the guide. You could press the "C" button in the old guide to go back, but now you have to press "A" for Options, go down a few rows and hit Reset. > Channel in the info bar being placed all the way to the right of the screen. When you hit "INFO", the first thing you see is the title of the program along with information, but instead of the channel name and number to the left next to the title, it is way off to the right. It feels a little disorienting. > Response time too quick when selecting channels by number with remote and being unable to cancel a wrong selection. You have to press the button combination quickly (channel 702 = "7","0","2") or it goes to the wrong channel (channel 7 or 70). Also if you input the wrong channel, it still tunes to that channel even after you press "EXIT".
But perhaps my biggest issue with the guide (not DVR related) is the fact that at times it freezes a few seconds to load information as you navigate by time, either forward or backward (It shows a loading circle and then the program information). When this happens, it makes the guide feel almost unusable. Shouldn't ALL of the program listings and information be loaded for the current day (as the old guide already had done) so you could navigate through it quickly? I think it's only the guide because the info bar actually shows programs pretty quickly when pressing the arrow buttons.
Visually this guide looks newer and better than the former guide, that's for sure. But as for the interface, it could have been either the same as the old one or another one that worked just as well. The old guide's interface was fine, especially when viewing past programming, unlike this one where you have to navigate over the channel to view a narrow "PAST" section of programming. When that happens, the screen showing the current program you're watching moves from left to right.
I also feel the guide could have done well without the animation, such as when you select options or navigate the channels by page.
As you can see, I didn't address any DVR related issues as I don't have DVR. But as for the ones that do, I understand your feelings toward the missing and changed DVR features.
I know this guide was released only several months ago, but it feels like it was both upgraded and downgraded at the same time. Meaning that many new features not present in the old guide were added, but features from the old guide that worked well (one being DVR options as well as the others I listed above) were removed.
Being that this is a whole new program guide, it may see updates and improvements later on. It would be nice if it were ones for issues that I, as well as others have listed.
Everyone feel free to reply to this post. |

Agreed, I hope to get use to it |

 | reply to Spence1 I really miss the info on channel 1000 while playing a recorded program. I remember when this feature was added a few years ago and everyone was very happy to have it added. Why was it removed?
I again tried to record 3 shows at once today but this time the 3 shows were all listed and I was asked which one I wanted to not record. I guess someone at CV is reading these posts! |

dm145 join:2009-12-12 Clifton, NJ | I don't think these features where purposely removed. They seem to be the features that were added to the old guide over the years. Almost like they took out of date code and applied the new guide to it thus omitting these customized features. |

| reply to rick0204 I believe the new guide is based on the Rovi guide.
I suspect it was then customized for CV and the boxes they use. So I suspect it is not that they were deliberately removing or changing features but adapting the Rovi and the features that were already there. -- Warning, If you post nonsense and use misinformation and are here to argue based on those methods, you will be put on ignore. |

 | What will happen to the new guide and DVR+ if time warner takes over? Time warner uses 8300 multi room. My guess is DVR + and the new guide would be droped. |

This is what the guide should look like. All the info is within the guide. |

2 edits | Reply to: guide @bloomberg.com As for the picture I posted before of returning to the old interface, it was just an idea. But this one looks very nice and advanced. In fact it looks similar to Fios, showing all of the info including the channel logo. Do you know what provider this guide comes from (Fios or something else)? |

 | reply to rick0204 Instead of telling us to just become used to the new guide as I have read on their website, it's nice to hear them actually admit that they'll make enhancements later on.
At least the guide is usable, and I have found some likeable features about it, such as searching programs on one channel. Also, being able to expand the guide to 7 rows, which allows you to view more listings on one page.
But one of my main issues, as a previous post stated, is the "PAST" section. It shows only an inch or two of information to the left of the channel listings. It seems unnecessary and, to be honest, going back two hours in the same window (as in the former guide) would have worked just fine. What I mean is that the channels might look better on the left side of the screen as before, instead of in the middle.
Another issue, in my opinion, is the dim color of the letters in the "AHEAD" section. If it were all in white, as in the "NOW" section, it would make the program listings more legible.
My last, and probably most important issue, is the lag of navigating through the guide (specifically how information, at times, has to keep being loaded with a loading circle when moving forward an hour or two). If the navigation speed could be improved, then I may be much more satisfied. |
