Re: [iO] New Guide Rollout said by bobmay:Got the new guide yesterday . It's ok, one question. I am using an RCA universal remote, does anyone know how to bring up the screen with channel guide, On Demand and so on. With the RCA remote is goes right to the channel guide. Try this: If you do not have a green button remote, you can access the Main Menu through the following steps:
Tune to channel 500. This will take you directly into the On Demand menu. Press the Left arrow key until Main Menu is highlighted. Press SEL or SELECT. You should now be in the Main Menu, where you can access Explore Optimum, Search, Optimum Select, and more. »optimum.custhelp.com/app/answers···hPdGw%3D |

JohnILMHollaPremium join:2003-03-15 Tuckahoe, NY | reply to Jmartz I don't totally mind the new guide ... I like the "mini" info guide more than the full screen guide (too much wasted space).
With the mini guide you get when you hit info, it's nice, but I feel two things would be a nice addition.
1. The channel right over the name of the program. This makes it easier when going up/down on the info screen. Instead of having to look all the way to the right to see what channel it is.
2. Channel logos in the unused space. This is purely cosmetic.
You can see what I'm talking about in the picture I attached. |

You can see what I'm talking about in the picture I attached. Hey...we don't have the logo in the info bar! We don't even have the station call letters over the show name like you do. We do have the show is in HD next to "TV-14"

now let's talk about moving that channel number next to or above the program name some more. i feel this is a critical flaw! |

My biggest gripe about the guide is having to look from one side of the screen then to the other to view the channel number and then the program that's on at that time. |

Was this new guide even tested on anyone?
I've been nothing but irritated by it.
Other than looking pretty, it's a step backwards.
1. Takes up too much room at bottom of screen. 2. Color scheme and letter sizing make it hard to read. 3. The info on the left and channel on the right, is just plain idiotic, makes it hard to channel surf, unless you have superhuman eyes. 4. No channel logos, why?
Also would seem that dvr box no longer turns on by pressing channel up, (tested on cablevision remote and my bose). That's an issue because now i have use 2 remotes to turn the unit on. Honestly i wish i could undo the update. The last guide was not the most modern look, but it surely was more useful and effective.
I don't have issues with change, i actually prefer change, when it's for the better, not worse.
I'm annoyed enough that i'm considering going to fios. |

I keep having frozen images and audio breakup snice the new guide. Cv was out and did not know what was causing the problem. ONLY 6 samsung boxes. |

 | reply to jcar302
In the advanced settings you can control power-on keys. I like mine set to power only, but at least on my box at the time of the initial update (10/3) the default was changed from that setting on my SA box. |

The channel number provides context to what the program is. |

The guide freezes whenever I try to scroll past 11pm. Never fails. A reboot resolves this issue. As I have stated in previous postings there are more.
I truly wish Cablevision had held back the roll out of the guide to both Samsung and SA boxes until ALL of the issues were taken care of.
A subscription to TV Guide is looking better and better. |

The guide looks great and functions well. I can not understand the huge amount of angst over this guide. Unless you are one of those people who has issues with the sound output I can see no other reason to dislike this new guide. Frankly it is an improvement over the sara guide and far better then Comcast's guides with the exception of the Xfinity X1 which may be as good as, or better then, the new Optimum guide. However, I think with Comcast you need a new box to get that guide were as everyone with Optimum will get the new guide. |

Just got the new guide...I think the jury is out and will have to get used to it to quickly navigate it.
Somehow the implementation off the guide on the Optimum app didn't quite translate to the big screen...but in terms of on-screen appearance it looks much, much nicer. -- Ken |

I agree with actor90...the new guide works much faster and looks so much better.
Everyone on their FB page seems to hate everything they do, just for the fun of it. I'm sure all these people who hate the new guide are sitting there thumbing through their iPhone, but cannot figure out the new guide? There's nothing much to figure out. The options and customizations are pretty self-explanatory, I think. |

I was exposed to the new guide via my ipad and it didn't grab me then either. I even hate it more on my ipad actually. -- OOL Subscriber Since - 10/18/00 . . . iO Subscriber Since - 11/22/04 . . . Optimum Voice Subscriber Since 06/30/11 |

| You never experienced the button lag on the old guide where you would press a directional button, page up/down, or channel up/down and it would just queue those presses to then make the box act crazy for a while? I hadn't seen a box that didn't do that at one point in time on the old SARA interface. That is by far the best thing with the new Onyx interface. |
|
 | I've also noticed an update to the caller ID on TV...it's much clearer.
The background seems to be a darker blue with much bolder white type. |

Because if you did you would see the "complaints" to be 100% valid. And except for one compliant (which was fixed, proving the actual complaint to be valid enough that Cablevision themselves owned up to the problem) there are others that are yet fixed.
And actually sound wasn't one of them. |

Finally got the new guide in Monmouth/Wall. Turned on the TV last Friday and saw the new Guide. So far I'm pleased. It's considerably faster than the old one on my SA box. |
