Re: [iO] New Guide Rollout said by bhan261:Finally got the new guide in Monmouth/Wall. Turned on the TV last Friday and saw the new Guide. So far I'm pleased. It's considerably faster than the old one on my SA box. Why's it no faster (slower) on my SA 8400HD? -- OOL Subscriber Since - 10/18/00 . . . iO Subscriber Since - 11/22/04 . . . | This new program guide is hard to read. a. The Left side is chopped off. b. The Right side is chopped off. c. Everything is Teal green in various shades and has no contrast. d. Even the selected item is "Pea Green" UGGHH! e. The 'Past' and 'Ahead' is useless since the text is dark teal ontop of teal. Whoever designed this needs to go back to design school. Bring back the old guide; at least that worked. |

said by actor90:The guide looks great and functions well. I can not understand the huge amount of angst over this guide. Unless you are one of those people who has issues with the sound output I can see no other reason to dislike this new guide. Is this a serious comment?
Let's try it this way. I'll list the Cons of the new guide, you list the pro's.
1. Too tall, takes up too much of the screen 2. No channel logo's 3. Color scheme and fonts hard to read 4. Laggy, when you change the channel the numbers you type show up ridiculously slow on screen, so much so that i start hitting them again thinking i missed somehow.
5. Channel on right, show on left making it impossible to see both at the same time when surfing the guide bar. This is my biggest complaint, i could live with the rest (although i don't want to).
Other than looking a little prettier (which comes at a functional cost), i see nothing good that they have done.
Please enlighten us to the positives of the guide. Maybe we all are just missing something. |

| What does To Tall even mean? Don't care about logo Colors are fine with me and can be read just fine No lag on my SA8300 Mini guide serves it purpose
My pros Hitting guide brings up guide Seven lines of programming vs five Options to Watch or Record when selecting show from guide Ability to add time to a series and it sticks Ability to setup recordings for dvr plus from any box Can now go past seven days to setup recordings, I think it is ten days Fixed my problem of no data in guide after midnight when updating More ways to customize new guide
Cons Not being able to record what is in the buffer when watching live tv Not being able to cancel a channel change Small lag when bringing up guide and settings on Samsung box Waste of space to the left in guide, I never go to the Past
Overall, an improvement over old guide |
|
 | Here are my cons:
Absolutely no guide information after 10pm. The entire grid is blank.
The guide freezes when trying to go past 11pm and the box has to be rebooted.
You list going past seven days to setup a recording. I can only go past one day. When selecting a future date the guide freezes or goes blank and the box has to be rebooted.
The guide is slow and changing channels is torture. Around 10pm when the guide goes blank the remote goes wacky and seems possessed. I could go on but there's no use.
dm145, I am happy that the new guide works for you but there are many of us who don't share your feelings. |

Note: Just because it doesn't affect you, doesn't mean it's not an issue.
Something totally cosmetic like logos might not be an issue for many people, but it's something that can easily be added.
Something somewhat functional like having the channel & number right about the title in the mini-guide is also another easy fix.
Don't dismiss something for the sole reason that it doesn't appeal to you.
Something like "You can't have a full screen guide because the hardware doesn't have the processing power" is a better excuse. |

Besides the PAST section being wasteful (but I got used to it being there), not being able to record buffer / rewindable shows is a real bummer. That's a feature we always had, now it's gone. I used that feature all the time. So many things on TV that I wanted to save for a later viewing, I can't do anymore. Sure I could just rewind (up to a hour) but I want to record it also. |

My SA cablebox just rebooted and is in the process of download an update. I'm guessing they must have fixed something! |

What does it mean when the software version in the diagnostic menu on the Samsung boxes is in yellow? |

Question:
With the new guide on Scientific Atlanta 4250HD boxes, is loading normal when scrolling for programs (in the future hours/days)?
Example: It's 8:00pm and you scrolling (specifically to the right) & you jump ahead a couple of hours, the screen somewhat freezes, the fields are blank (in the ahead hours) and there is a small rotating circle in the upper right on the screen. Then after about 10 - 15 seconds it unfreezes and the programs in the guide fill in with the appropriate info. Also there is zero problems for scrolling up/down. That moves moves flawlessly. It's only going to the right.
This is for 4250HD ONLY. It does not do this on 8300 HD. With the 8300HD boxes you can scroll to the right for days with zero loading pauses. |
|
 | That's because the DVR boxes load a week of guide data while the normal cable boxes only load 1 day. |

I'm sure this might be obvious to most but...
When watching a DVR Plus recording, and you hit info, you get the info on that said program.
But when you are watching a DVR (set top 8300) recording, and you hit info, you get nothing, it's blank.
This has always been since the new guide. The old guide you would get the info. I hear they are working on the issue. I just find it funny that it works with the DVR Plus & not the 8300 on board DVR. You would think it would be the other way around. |

Well October 3rd marked 1 year since we've had the new guide. Anyone want to offer an updated review on it so far? |
