I get ridiculously high pings when connected to my router (Cisco Valet M10) but when connected directly through my thompson modem, the ping drops to 7ms. Are there settings I can change in the router so that the pings would go down? The ping stats aren't really bothering me that much, it's just the wait time for me to connect to online services which goes up to 30 seconds. That might sound a little spoiled, but before ElectronicBox I would connect in 5s max, and as my other argument... "YOLO": that's 3 hours per year if I try to connect once per day everyday .
Both. Wired my desktop to the router and high pings, but pings are at 5-10ms when desktop is directly connected to modem with wire. That result was wireless with laptop. Is it supposed to be normal? Or is there definitely a problem somewhere?
Try turning off wireless completely and test. Have you reset your router as well by unplugging it? Normally a router might add a few ms but that much is just bad -- Gnuman.com - Linux in the home
