Anyone else having connection problems atm? Here's my tracert. Trying to load anything takes very long and sometimes takes multiple attempts before the page loads as it would often error out.

I think it's Rogers flaky DNS servers.
I changed to Google public DNS. 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 |

Not a networking expert, but I think it's their DNS server. I switched to 8.8.8.8, google's DNS, and things seem fine now.
This is rogers, right? It says your ISP is telus |

Looks like others have concluded the same thing. I think I'm going to ditch Rogers' DNS. I've had connection problems in the past, but couldn't pinpoint them since I've also been constantly changing firmware. |

Page loads were pathetically slow, was tethering with phone. And yup, switching DNS solved the problem. |

I haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary since early this week when I lost my connection for a few minutes. |

It's complete trash in London right now (North). ping timesa re fine, page loads not so much so I suspect you are all on the right track. It's been inconsistent all week speed wise (ping times in games from 24ms up to 400ms) but not it is outright ruined. I'll try it again in a few hours, this page took almost 5 minutes to load :O! |

Rogers DNS is failing. Google 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 works like a charm. |

There is a fibre cut in Toronto that is affecting internet connectivity for some cable users and the majority of wireless customers. |

Yes, but for me it seems like a combination of DNS plus other issues. I was occasionally connecting to some sites (but not most) via Rogers DNS. Switching to Google seems to work better but it still slow loading pages (although at least it can now find them). |

Tracing route to dns.rnc.net.cable.rogers.com [64.71.255.198] over a maximum of 30 hops:
1 3 ms 1 ms 1 ms 192.168.1.1 2 * * * Request timed out. 3 12 ms 11 ms 11 ms 24.156.158.237 4 10 ms 11 ms 11 ms 24.156.156.146 5 10 ms 11 ms 11 ms 69.63.250.230 6 12 ms 10 ms 11 ms 66.185.82.206 7 * 15 ms 15 ms dns.rnc.net.cable.rogers.com [64.71.255.198]
Trace complete.
DNS servers are barley reachable....... Use external such as google for now |

Like others have said, switching to Google DNS seems to work great. My phone data on the other hand is messed up too. Tried to call rogers and they are even having issues with their support centre. Must be getting flooded with calls! |

I think it's a bigger issue than DNS. A friend of my has Rogers Internet and had her do a traceroute to one of my servers and it seems to die between Rogers and Cogent. |

Fibre cut is in Mississauga area |

Well, why don't RIM oops Rogers just reroute around the affected lines? Surely Rogers can't be that incompetent that they let half of Ontario go down.
Who's running the tech show at Rogers? Bozo the clown??
The first thing you would build into a network is a backup system..........
Where's all these "Network upgrades" we get ripped off for yearly?? |

Sure, change to Google DNS and let them track ALL your internet activity. Or, you could choose the fastest DNS servers. » www.grc.com/dns/benchmark.htm |

Techs are en route to fix the issue. Hold times for Rogers are over 2 hours. So dont bother calling in. |

If this is helpful in any way: I logged into my modem, chose the "Wireless" options and changed the DNS server numbers (either to 8.8.8.8 or one of those listed on the website JAC70 linked above) |
