I have to disconnect everything today to install a new desk, so I'll take the opportunity to go inspect that modem which is currently far away behind the desk, defended by more cables per square inch than should be legally allowed (I have a lot of hardware...)

anon posted : HI,

It is true that smc firmware was changed/upgraded, i have noticed 2 weeks ago when i was not able to connect to the internet and finding out that my box the firmware was upgraded. After talking to CS for about 45 min at rogers it turns out that a lot of customers were phoning in and complaining about no connectivity/lights not working/network ports not connecting/and RF (wifi) was reseted to factory defaults. Rogers Technical staff could not do anything with the box and suggested me to take it to the Rogers Video+ and have the modem swapped, while i was there i requested if i could have another brand modem, to my shock they said sure what is the brand model you wanted? - they knew that alot people in the past 2 days that were returning their SMc modems. Well i have exchanged to a Cisco 3528 modem. Since then my connections were stable and Ping were in the low's 20's (45's to rogers.com).

elitefx posted : I think this works for all modems. Just put 192.168.100.1 into your browser and check the build time/date for your firmware. Shouldn't need a password. Does require java....
Edit: Your SMC internal IP address may also be 192.168.2.1 No matter the brand of modem/router, its default internal IP address should be listed in the manufacturer's documentation.
