Re: Quebec Cable - Slow Speeds (vCable)

Just did speedtest again

I am using a router right now and I know that makes my speeds slower but based on previous comparative results its usually only a 3-5mbps difference in speed when using a router vs. direct cable connection.

Troubleshooting usually takes 2 consecutive hours out of my time so I am delaying this do this until later after 9:30pm. Hopefully it doesn't persist.

It looks like you posted as a guest and that's why it's being held by the system. When MOD approves it, then it'll be posted.

I suggest you post again and make sure you are logged in.

And no problem!

Obama won! Re-elected for 2nd term. Congrats to him!

Hi there,

If you would like to post in the direct forum, we can gladly help you there. I see that you should have received a PM from one of our agents - just want to see if you are affected by a network problem or not, as most people have reported their service is back to normal.

Take care,
TSI-Ashley

Combine that with all the new UBB rates on usage that we're now paying... with videotron we're on the aggregated model so a gig link costs us something like $20k/mth it's completely way out of step with normal market rates.. it's eye popping.

Wow, 20K/m is crazy for a 1Gbps NNI (source »www.crtc.gc.ca/public/8740/2012/···2640.pdf). I would expect a 10Gbps NNI at 20K (10x1Gbps Bell NNI would cost ~12K/m).

I can vouch for Marc that it takes time to get orders through carriers (being in telecom for the past 5 years).

Keep in mind that capacity is not infinite. From time to time, Videotron might need to add capacity on their side too, either at the demarc where they interconnect with TSI or inside their core/distribution. It can be simple as to add slots or modules to adding new equipments or build to install and lay new fiber cables. We're talking months here.

I am NOT in Toronto. I am using the Toronto server for speed testing purposes, which is what you should be doing, since all web traffic that originates from TSI customers passes through Toronto. In order to get optimal ping and speed, you must use a Toronto server. Look to the left of this paragraph, and you'll see in which province I reside.

Sorry about that
But why the test server should be one in Toronto km away and not the one closest to my home

When doing your test in Montreal...

It goes Home > Toronto > Some other company test server in Montreal

You add much more distance by testing in Montreal as it need to go to Toronto & back to Montreal

When doing the test from Toronto

It goes Home > Toronto > TekSavvy test server in Toronto

This reduces the length data must travel to get the result.

Often, I get better results using the FibreNoire server here in Montreal than Teksavvy's own speedtest.net server, for some odd reason.

For example this Sunday I was having online gaming issues. After swearing at Teksavvy as a Speedtest with their server in Toronto showed only 10 MB/s out of my 30 MB/s connection, the next test done on Fibrenoire gave me my expected 30 MB/s. Makes me wonder if the Teksavvy test server at speedtest.net wouldn't have congestion issues

Just wanted to give a brief update. Speeds have been good to very good for the last two weeks and the agents at customer service have provided exceptional support, accountability, and they seem to have great interdepartmental communication (issue was resolved quickly). I'm really pleased with teksavvy right now and their reputation for offering better service than acanac has proven to be 100% accurate.

I will post a review after the 4 month mark (after Christmas).

Thanks tsi jonathan and tsi david

I am a cable customer for a week.

I see no congestion in Laval.
