taoFrazzlebatsPremium join:2000-12-03 Lansing, MI 2 edits | [MLB] Cabrera achieves Triple Crown? The Triple Crown is an unofficial record in MLB, not many have achieved it, and not one in 45 years has come close since Carl Yastrzemski did in 1967 while helping the Red Sox to the AL pennant.
16 times have players led the leagues in home runs, RBIs, and batting average. Two have done it twice, so only 12 players ever have achieved this. The two who have won it twice are Rogers Hornsby and Ted Williams, but the list includes Mickey Mantle, Ty Cobb, Lou Gehrig, and Frank Robinson. The feat has not been achieved in the National League since 1937. As hard as it is to just hit a round ball with a round bat, it is a stunning achievement to hit so well over an entire season or career.
Miguel Cabrera now leads the AL in home runs, batting average, and RBIs with two games to play. ESPN will be interrupting their programming to cut to his at bats the next two nights. We are on the cusp of sports history being made.

Re: [MLB] One day to Triple Crown? Miguel Cabrera sits at .331 with 44 homers and 139 RBIs.
Mike Trout of the Angels is batting .324 going into the final day of the regular season. If Trout goes 4 for 4, his average will rise to .329. If Cabrera plays and goes 0-4 he will sit at .329. The Angels play at 6:40pm and that game will be half over before the Tigers start at 8:10pm.
Josh Hamilton has 43 homers and 128 RBIs. Two home runs and he passes Cabrera and no Triple Crown. The kicker he is this, Hamilton does not need to hit two home runs today to pass Cabrera. If the Athletics beat the Rangers today, there will be a tie-breaker game played tomorrow. It is unlikely that Hamilton could pass Cabrera in RBIs in any scenario. The Rangers play at 3:30pm today, the result of that game will be known before the Tigers play.
It is nearly impossible to try and hit a home run. In my memory, only Reggie Jackson, who in 1977 hit three home runs in one game-all on first pitches from three different pitchers, could hit home runs when he tried. However, if Texas beats Oakland without two Hamilton home runs, Cabrera might not play tonight.
Cabrera was asked Monday night if he would would rather win the Triple Crown, or the MVP award. Cabrera responded by pointing to his teammates behind him celebrating their freshly earned division crown and said, "Championship". |

I could have done it much simpler, but either way:
I get 14 players.
Anyway, pretty nice to see this happen again. Pretty much guarantee's himself the MVP, especially since Detroit is playoff bound. -- If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough. - Albert Einstein |

taoFrazzlebatsPremium join:2000-12-03 Lansing, MI | I offer no excuses for my math on the run. I did like this, 16 players minus 2 players who have done it twice, so 16-4, lol. Good catch, go Miggie.
The guy won't like all the attention this will bring which is not so much as it was in 1967. Too bad, baseball is a great sport that doesn't fit so well on television. It is too slow and people love the home run when the most exciting play is a triple. End editorial. |

taoFrazzlebatsPremium join:2000-12-03 Lansing, MI | reply to MuDvAyNe Oakland is up on Texas right now. So if that stands then Texas would play the second place team from the East, and Oakland would go to Detroit for the weekend. |

| reply to tao Triple or the rare inside-the-park home run? The Blue Jays have this guy (rookie) Anthony Gose, I could see him doing a home run on a base hit. I also enjoy seeing Prince Fielder gunning for a triple and getting it.
Even better is the triple play. Unassisted. »mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?conte···=6256159
Doesn't get better than that. Man, I love baseball. -- If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough. - Albert Einstein |

Re: [MLB] Cabrera achieves Triple Crown? No home run from Hamilton, Trout is currently 2 for 3, and cannot pass Cabrera for the batting title. So we have our first Triple Crown winner since 1967. Congrates to Miggie, the greatest hitter of our time. |

| reply to tao Miguel Cabrera of the Detroit Tigers became the first player in 45 years to win Major League Baseball's Triple Crown after finishing the 2012 season on Wednesday leading the American League in batting average, home runs and runs batted in. The Tigers slugger, who had a .330 batting average, 44 home runs and 139 RBI, is the first player to win the award since Carl Yastrzemski in 1967. -- ~~Go Lions....back to back Cups!!~~ |

 | HELL YEA!
Go Tigers.
Now go get that Pennant. |

 | reply to tao He deserves every bit of praise he has garnished and winning the Triple Crown is a tremendous achievement. Shame, shame on his manager for sitting him down after he went 0-2 after his first two at bats to protect his batting average lead. The manager soils the achievement a bit but that disgrace falls on the manager. Nevertheless it happen. Again shame on the manager. |
