 | GPS tracks stolen computer to neighbour's home Police in Sarnia, Ont., say they found a stolen laptop charging in the house beside the one it was stolen from.
On Sept. 30, a Sarnia couple reported a break-and-enter in the 300 block of South Indian Road. Police said someone entered the house through a basement window and left through a sliding patio door.

I uses WiFi location. Google Maps and other location services (like Skyhook) have mapped out where router SSIDs and MAC addresses are located.
Given that it was so close, the victims very own wifi network might have helped track it down. (Edit: it certainly did as it was "still accessing the owners own wireless router. ")
This article and others talking about GPS are dead wrong, there is no GPS in a MacBook. |

I have all my systems with important or sensitive data configured to email my IP address on bootup and every half hour thereafter to one of my email addresses. It happens behind the scenes so no one would ever know if they stole one of my systems that it was logging its location.
I've been toying with the GPS idea for my laptop for a while now... |

 | Well if they're dumb enough to boot it while hooked up to net they deserve to be caught.
Your systems wouldn't be safe with me as I'd first sift through your stuff barring encryption then wipe it and start fresh.
And I'd do all this while in the middle of a large lake in case your gps'ing me |

 | The perps didn't even change wifi access points, it was still connected to the rightful owners wireless network. |

With "Find my Mac" it will pinpoint the location within 30 feet or so if it is connected. You can remotely regain control of your device, even turn on the webcam or take screenshots for evidence. |
