Depends on who makes the phone, the carrier, etc.

Thanks for all the assistance..:+) Most carriers control the roll out after it is released by the manufacturer. You do have the option of unlocking your phone, rooting it and running a custom ROM.
If it's a current "flagship" model, chances are high you will see an update to Jelly Bean, some day. However, if it's a deprecated model, you may never see the update. -- Ich habe kein Mitleid - Me You're a daisy if you do. - Doc Holliday And as always, have nice day. |

 | reply to Loco 4.0.4 is the newest legit version for Sprint. Not sure if the other carriers are on same.
When JB gets released it will be done as an over the air OTA update and gets rolled out in stages.
As mob said you can root phone... but IMO if you are not familiar with this; DONT!

tcopePremium join:2003-05-07 Sandy, UT kudos:2 | reply to Loco As mentioned, you always have the latest version for _your_ phone... as a newer version is pushed to your phone when it's put out. It's not the latest version that Google has put out, as this is 4.1. However, 4.1 has not been released by your carrier for the S3 (unless you are living in Poland).
Keep in mind that Google releases pure Android for free. Phone manufactures then take that and add their own coding (bells and whistles) to it along with extra pre-installed apps (bloatware). That is what you get in the end. So when Google releases a new version, your phone manufacture then needs to modify it before it can release it for your phone. Or they can choose not to release it for your phone at all. |

| Thanks for the info....but when it's available, how will i know ? And where do i go to get it ?
Will my phone be sent a message from Google or AT&T ?
With my iPhone 4S, everything would be at iTunes. It's a lot different with this Galaxy S3, but i'll get used to it soon.

Settings -> About phone -> Software update -> Update for manual check If you tick Auto update on the same screen you're good for future. |
