Re: [TWC] Virtually All TWC Customers Face $3.95 Modem Rental Fe said by hottboiinnc:I'm not spamming think you. I simply made a comment. And like i said, services will be available next week and at that time a name will be available. But also good luck on those modem fees with TWC and any caps they put in. and remember- any server on a res connection with them will get you kicked off.
And with any 3rd provider costs are normally higher than with the actual last mile owner.- look at the cost of DSL. Honestly, who cares about a modem rental fee when at the price you stated, with TW you can get twice the downstream, over twice the upstream, pay the modem lease fee and still be better off than this mystery provider. No matter how you attempt to spin it, that is simply not justifiable.
As for the prices of DSL, sorry, I dont keep up with outdated and obsolete technology. I dont go online and look at what blank audio cassette tapes are selling for these days, and I definitely dont look at whats going on in the dead land of DSL.
None of what you said applies to me personally. Time Warner has no caps, as a Signature Home customer it appears Ill be exempt from the lease fee, and I have no desire to host a server. And yesterday, I thought you posted that today (as in 10/4/12) a press release would be sent out.
And one more thing, I prefer to do business with companies that are reputable, have a history and I know that when I wake up in the morning I can go on the internet, make a phone call and watch TV, without fear of having no service because my el cheapo no name start up provider couldnt afford to be in business any longer and closed up shop. -- For the future of our nation, we must unite and vote out the terrorist known as Hussein Obama. Agreed... so what if the modem rental fee went up by a dollar, consider this as part of the price package.

Steve MehsGun Control Is Using A Steady HandPremium join:2005-07-16 | And if you live less than a few feet away from the CO your 15Mb speed drops like a rock. DSL is an old outdated technology that has no place in the modern world. Craprizon is my phone company, living in a rural area 10-15 miles from the CO meant no chance of DSL
until remote terminals came about in around 2006. My aunt who lives around the corner, whose house I can see out my back window, can get Craprizons DSL via a remote terminal. I cannot, why I dont know, but I do not care. The max speed she can get is 1.5Mb downstream. I cant live with anything less than my 50Mb Wideband.
Last Sunday I went into work for a few hours, to take care of some stuff. We have a 1.5Mb connection. I brought in my tablet so I could stream some NFL Sunday Ticket and Red Zone. That lame 1.5Mb connection couldnt even stream my football without buffering every few seconds. When people ask me to clean out their computers, I usually do a reformat, but always take their towers at home. Even at a 10 or 20 Mb connection, do you have any idea how much faster it is just to download a few years worth of updates with a 50Mb connection versus whatever they have.
I can just imagine the typical DSL connection completely choking while I stream DirecTV Red Zone on one tablet with the DirecTV app, NFL Red Zone using the TW app on the other tablet, while downloading 10 years worth of update to the neighbors Window XP machine while other things are going on, on my network. With over 20 internet enabled devices in my network, I cannot imagine slooooooooooooooow DSL being much fun to put up with. -- For the future of our nation, we must unite and vote out the terrorist known as Hussein Obama. I would certainly understand if a Signature Home customer might also wonder why the little people were taking mass transit (or even a personal wheeled vehicle) across town when they could take a limousine or helicopter instead. Seems rather silly, don't you think, to concentrate on the price of an item when there's so much money available to satisfy our every whim?

DSL is an old outdated technology that has no place in the modern world. Damned if I am going to pay $50 a month for cable Internet. I will do with dial-up, or do without; absent "outdated and obsolescent" DSL technology.
Craprizon is my phone company ... I cant live with anything less than my 50Mb Wideband. Some of us (more than a few of us) can live without 50Mb/s Wideband. And we have the choice with DSL technology.

Steve MehsGun Control Is Using A Steady HandPremium join:2005-07-16 | Yes, I meant more. Thank you. Sorry, 5Mb is unacceptable for almost 2013. Considering all you have to do is read the front page of this very biased anti-cable site to see stories about the telcos bleeding DSL subscribers to the cable companies, its pretty obvious that people want more speed and are dumping DSL in droves for cable broadband. And the lame telcos like A Fee&Fee and Craprizon are completely abandoning their DSL infrastructure to focus on their extremely low capped wireless services. As a sports fanatic (NFL, NHL, MLB, NASCAR, some NCAA football and trying to get into the UFC), I cannot live without both TV and online access to my favorite teams, players and drivers. Its really not much out of ordinary to have 20 internet devices, considering just about every electronic device you buy these days is wifi enabled or has an Ethernet jack. I miscounted, I actually have only 19 internet enabled devices. Two desktops, laptop, TV, two blu ray players, A/V Receiver, Xbox 360, PS3, two tablets, smartphone, MP3 Player, two DirecTV DVRs, Sprint Airave, two ancient Windows Pocket PCs, internet enabled printer. -- For the future of our nation, we must unite and vote out the terrorist known as Hussein Obama. Actually its completely relevant. Im an electronics geek and live for technology. I had 5Mb broadband back in 2005, if I still was at the speed Id be appalled. As time goes by, things get bigger, faster, more stable and reliable, and I enjoy keeping up with the latest advancements in technology.

Id say at most 5-7 devices are using network resources on any given Sunday during football and the race. Right now two computers are in use, the Xbox is downloading updates, the DirecTV DVR is downloading Boardwalk Empire on HBO On Demand and Im streaming Sirius XM from my tablet to the Jambox.
The faster downstream/upstream speeds are nice, especially when I was on vacation a few months ago. I used the backdoor way to stream TWC TV without having to be directly on your home network. Using Team Viewer to remote desktop into connect to my home computer and stream the TWC TV in the browser while I was in Ohio. Hooked my laptop up to the hotel TV via HDMI and it was just like I was at home. Between the nice wideband connection at home and being in a decent Sprint 4G area I was all set. -- For the future of our nation, we must unite and vote out the terrorist known as Hussein Obama. Which reminds me; it is time to pick up 士郎 正宗's PIECES2, which, oddly enough, costs the same as the difference between what I'd pay for "blazing fast" cable Internet from Comcast, and what I currently pay for my "tortoise slow" DSL from Sonic.net, LLC. -- Norman ~Oh Lord, why have you come ~To Konnyu, with the Lion and the Drum |

1 edit | reply to Steve Mehs We been with TWC for a very long time. If they try to pull the $3.95 Modem Rental Fee on us. I'll be right on the phone in a single heart beat.
When we called about the 30/5 extreme broadband when it first came out. They had to send out a truck in order to change out the modem. Which you normally had to pay a small fee for them rolling out the truck to install the new modem.
But since we had service with TWC for all these years. They waived the fee for them coming and installing new modem. So they better waive the modem fee for us too.
Cause I will drop them like a hot potato without thinking twice. They are not the only fish in the pond here. We been here for 25+ years long be for even broadband was available here. |
|
 | They won't waive the fee unless you get your own modem. Most other carriers charge a similar fee either way. |
