Bodybagger posted : Really strange... but when copying a file over the network on a Sagem 1704 it totally cripples the DSL. I mean 1000ms ping while copying and as soon as the file copied to another PC on my network my DSL went back to perfect. Wtf? Is it just something with these 1704's that do that?

Bodybagger posted : With those stats Prodious you should be atleast 6Mb without an issue... other than the over sold DSLAM you are currently on.

Doc I'll post it on there now. I've tried to get WIS and WLTX notified of this service back when it was totally unusable for ~3 years. Nothing ever became of it and never had any emails back from them. I haven't been out your way in awhile so I'm not sure if they've been running any new equipment and/or fiber. I'm not familiar with how many units are in your area bro but maybe they can do some rerouting to get you back working.
computerdoc posted : Guaranteeing an exact speed at all times is not to be expected. Receiving less than 5% of what you are being charged for is not. No ISP can do this. Yes, if it's related to your network or cabling, that's one thing. But that's what their techs are there for to diagnose and it's almost never the case. Time and time again we have all seen they tremendously oversell their DSLAM's causing high latency and issues for all.

A consistent connection and overall average speed is what anyone should come to expect and this is not asking too much. Outside of Windstream I have never seen such a huge variance from one minute or hour to the next. Cable broadband is much more susceptible to varying speeds yet most of their customers still receive tremendous download and upload speeds on top of extremely low latency.

Equally important is the fact that the reason for the tremendous loss of performance is due to oversold bandwidth on the providers part. It's a nice loophole that Windstream has typed up in the contract but at what point does common sense come into play and force the company to FIX THEIR ISSUES. Worst yet, they have been given stimulus funds for just this reason...to upgrade dated equipment in rural areas. I saw in the forum the other day where they are trying to ban ISP options for areas that they can't support or upgrade the equipment sufficiently. How disgusting and greedy is that?

At some point they will become liable for the long history of negligence and embarrassing support/performance record that they are without a doubt becoming known for.
