I'm having the same problem. I have been using my external DVR and was told that this functionality is no longer available. My previously set up programs are still working and 'locking the box' as scheduled. However, I can't see what the programs are nor can I set up any new programs.

Has CV just made my 2 DVR units unusable?


Is there any way to program the cable box for recording on an external DVR?

It was stated that employees were using the new guide for a while now. You think something this big would have been caught by them earlier? Must be something else going on.

Are you recording single recording/series recordings? Setting up for same date or future date? Have you rebooted the box by unplugging the power cord (not the button on box/remote)?

If you can't get it to work still, there's always the app/website as a potential workaround.

I have tried single recording. the option for recurring recordings is not available (series recording is for DVR service only ). I have Unplugged the box. The recording/programming option is only available to DVR customers. I tried to set up via the app but it says I must subscribe to the DVR service. Prior to this new guide upgrade, I could use my external DVR player without issue.

I know I have recored somethi via app for a friend with DVR+ via the app (android app doesn't work for DVR+, have to use the iOS, PC/Mac, or Kindle Fire app), and had to go into "more options" to do so.

I'm a bit confused though, when you say "external DVR player", what device exactly are you talking about?

i am using a Panasonic DVR player/recorder. it is a separate unit that records programs on a dvd.

when i tried to access the functionality on the optimum app (via iPad), it gives an error message and states that i must subscribe to DVR+ service.

I had no idea that you were able to record to your outside DVR from CV's software on box/app prior to this update. I don't see what would have changed from the app's perspective since only the box received an update (basically, I'd expect any check for DVR+ or DVR box in the app would have already been implemented).

I don't know if there is a way to do what you're asking, but I understand what you're saying now. I misunderstood your first post to mean a CV DVR box.

I just want to "lock the box" at a set time/channel/duration/frequency to record on my Panasonic DVR. (OK, everyday I record a show from 130-2pm). I did not have to manually set the cablebox to channel 2 everyday and hope that no one changes the channel in the interim. i could set up to record multiple shows (example, from 1-2 on channel 5 on [date] and from 4-5 on channel 29 [every Wed]).

The recent feedback from Cablevision is that this simple feature is no longer available. The resolution from Cablevision is to purchase the DVR+ service

Am I the only one that has been using this feature (to record a program to an external DVR or VCR)?

Does everyone use the DVR subscription offered by Cablevision? Or just use on-demand or view online?
