Time Warner has created a new regional channel in some markets, and renamed it in others to "Sports Channel". They also created a national "SportsNet".

Why not have a "Sports Channel" for the L.A. area with the Galaxy and Lakers and like in the NEO Region, high-school football, then have all the other programming on the "SportsNet" channel. This way "SportsNet" isn't blacked out nationally during the Galaxy and Lakers games.

does the name really matter? Also my area now has TWC Sportsnet and TWC Sports Channel (F.K.A. as the Texas Channel) so there really is no difference other than one is local to Socal and one is to Texas. I have noticed that TWC has toned down the non sports programs on the local edition of TWC Sports Channel and has made it 16:9 in a 4:3 screen possibly indicating a HD channel is on the way hopefully.

Virtually a useless channel in upstate New York.

all other programming besides Lakers games, Galaxy Games, and Sparks games. They have a lot of shows that are classic games and even had surfing contests shown so it is not the Lakers channels as many have suggested.

Same thing happened to the "Texas Channel" it is now called TWC Sports Channel too. That channel here started out as sports channel called metro sports that was supposed to mimic the big time metro sports channel in Kansas City and it failed and it became the Texas Channel. I remember metro sports and it was based out of my TWC local office as they had the channel production studios right next door to the payment center and in the same building as the headend.

Yes it is. Much like the YES Network, which is available nationally, but only New York gets the live games. I guess maybe there needs to be a different term to distinguish between regional programming and regional distribution for channels like these that aren't regional for both, but aren't truly national networks.

They put it nationally so they make more money. But why anyone outside of New York would want YES, or anyone outside of LA would want TWC Sportsnet LA is beyond me.

Not for the 18 million people living in Los Angeles... I don't get why you expected a regional sports network to be different than any other. This is not ESPN, NBC Sports, or any other national network where they have the rights to show games nationally. They only have the rights to show the games in the Los Angeles TV market.

I don't get why they wouldn't have this enabled on a brand new channel and hope they fix this soon.

I hadn't watched it, but I just checked and there is no CC in the feed. TWC Deportes does have them, but doesn't show anything when turned on.

Once or twice on DirecTV I have been blacked out from watching a pre or post game show, and oddly enough the Washington Redskins show that's on either MASN or CSN MidAtlantic, can't remember which, is blacked out as well, but 99% of them are in the clear.

The LA Lakers have a lot of transplant fans, and they are the face of the NBA, much like the Yankees are in the MLB and the Cowboys in the NFL. And you’ll have a few basketball fans in general tune in. Me, personally, I don’t give a hoot about the Miami Marlins, but just having general interest in baseball, I watched most of the ‘Marlins Live’ pregame show the other night.

That's what I was saying. And not that TWCSN LA would be a "New National Time Warner Sports Network" like the OP said. And so it would be similar to other RSNs where they might share some programming but local sports will only be shown locally. So on TWCSN WNY they would still show the local sports they used to show, unless those sports signed agreements to go to different channels which wouldn't directly be a result of TWCSN LA being created.

TWC Sportsnet in NY is staying separate and TWC Sportsnet LA will on the sports tier in NY so no they are not going to be closing down TWC Sportsnet in the Northeast.

The college games and weekly studio shows along with high school sports will be shown nationwide. Also on TWC Deportes they will be showing Mexican Soccer and I think Mexican bull riding. So actually TWC Deportes is not a simulcast of TWC Sportsnet but instead a stand alone channel that will mirror the NBA, MLS, WNBA games in Spanish.

For instance I thought it showed the Rhinos, Americans, some local NCAA college sports, and some other things in Rochester? And similarly Buffalo had some of it's own local sports shown on it. Just like how all the other RSNs operate. Sure it didn't have any of the big 4 sports like LA will have, but I didn't think they were dropping all the local sports in WNY?
