For example at our local hospital there are loading doors and maintenance entrances that are hundreds of meters from anywhere that the anti-smoking zealot targets when we had the 9m rule.

<said>said by Kardinal:</said>
Hospital grounds? Staff? Same rules as office building entrances (it's 9 metres away in Ottawa).

Here in Peterborough our hospital CEO Ken “I don’t give a shit” Tremblay has instituted a complete ban on every square inch of hospital property. If you are a visitor, staff or patient you go out to the road or sidewalk. In an effort to further make the trek more dangerous, and in a ridiculous assumption people would quit smoking, they strategically installed fencing to coral smokers along entrances that are snowed in and icy in the winter. One entrance is where all the ambulances come flying in at all hours. Brilliant move there Ken. If you are a patient in a wheelchair or with an IV pole then too bad as the Tremblay and his lackeys have decided what is best for you.

<said>said by Kardinal:</said>
Sports fields? Umm...people smoke while playing sports? Or is it the parents on the sidelines that this is for?

Here it is all of the city property so it could be parents on the sidelines or hundreds of meters away in the parking lot. Recently some twit wrote into the paper how she was incensed at the fact she phoned the police about a parent smoking outdoors near a soccer game and they were too busy to rush over. These are the type of nitwits that are behind these laws.

Anav posted : Urban, the myth of the smoking area was actually thought up and pushed through legislation by lobby groups representing the tobacco industry. These are very smart people that wished to ensure there remained a viable smoking outlet at the work place. It did not originate from govts. Most of what goes on, unfortunately we have no clue about, especially when it comes to policy, legislation or heck tendering of construction contracts. Money (greed-profit) is the driver, not much else.
--
Ain't nuthin but the blues! "Albert Collins".
Leave your troubles at the door! "Pepe Peregil" De Sevilla.
