shanerPremium join:2000-10-04 Calgary, AB | I need a cable Hey geeks, I need your help finding a video cable.
Basically, I want to output a Mac to 2 other monitors. This is at church.
Currently, we have a mini VGA to Female VGA adapter from the Mac hooked up to our projection screens. We want to add another monitor in the soundbooth for dual monitor support so that we can preview videos and pictures in the booth rather than on the main projector screens.
The cable to the projection screen has a male VGA end and the spare monitor has a female VGA input.
So, it seems to me that I need a splitter cable with 2 male ends and one female end. I can only find 2 female/1 male splitters.
Any suggestions? -- I'm a man, but I can change. If I have to. I guess.

| Something like this?
4 Male ports output - »www.canadacomputers.com/product_···d=032469
There's also something like this, but I would have to look around to find out where to buy it. 4 Male ports selectable output - »www.startech.com/AV/Switchers/Co···S415RVGA
You can also get them in 8 port versions if you need more connections. |

If you're using mini VGA, your mac is most likely a laptop, and you already have a dual monitor setup; the laptop monitor or the projector. As it stands, you can either have the laptop and projector as mirrored displays (both show the same thing) or as separate monitors showing different images.
If, for some reason, you absolutely need to have two video *outputs*, consider that you can only do mirroring with a splitter, you'll always see the same thing on the soundbooth monitor and projector.
If that's acceptable, you have two choices, either active, or passive.
For passive, here is a one male to two female splitter:
It costs $4.43
For active, here is a one female to two female splitter:
It costs $18.81. You would need to combine it with a male to male gender changer:
It costs $1.43
For additional non-mirrored displays, there may be USB-based options, but I'd recommend against them. They have performance implications.
EDIT: I should clarify that whatever genders your existing cables are isn't really an issue, in the worst case you can get gender changers to make things connect as required.

Make sure both monitors support the same resolution you want to display at. |

You need an active circuit to provide proper buffering and driving circuitry to each input.
This is not a household electrical outlet that you can simply plug an octopus output into. It is a critically timed RF driver circuit that depends on proper impedance loading and output levels. |
