Well i don't see any real slow downs that would cause the problem you are having, so it most likely is the Astraweb server that is not responding. I had trouble at times with NewsBin program, where it would make connections and drop them then make more and i would also get errors about to many connection from the news server. Like when the news server only allow 20 connection and i make 25 or so, it would slow down and stop at times because of that. So i had to lower the number of connections i allowed NewsBin to make below the max number allow by the news server account i was paying for to stop those error.

Check your log for to many connection errors.
