Laptop turns on & off when it wants

Hopefully the correct forum, if not, feel free to move...

Basically, I've a laptop here that not only turns on and off when instructed, but also whenever it wants.

For example, we were watching TV last night and for no apparent reason, the laptop turned on!?

Any ideas what could be causing this? Or is any further info needed?

Just as a quick FYI - It's a factory install with no additional software installed.

I was bored, so I Googled your problem. There are a ton of posts regarding this issue.

Might be a good idea to let us know the make, model and OS.

Try this: in Vista/7, go to 'Control Panel - Power Options', and 'Change plan settings - Advanced power settings' for the plan you are using and under Sleep, set 'Allow wake timers' to Disable for plugged in/battery.

Checked settings & disabled for all profiles.

The machine is an Advent Roma 3000 running Windows 7 Home Premium.

Most likely cause will be a trigger waking the system.

From a command line (command prompt) you can ask the operating system what the most recent wake trigger was. The query is "powercfg lastwake"

If you are unsure how to interpret the result copy & paste it back here, we can help.

Hmmm. Just typed that and got "Wake History Count - 0"

Try again next time you notice the behavior occur.

In my Dell Inspiron 4050 when I pressed capslock it automatically shut down. Then I've changed the motherboard. Now the problem is solved.

Good to hear. (what does this have to do with the OP though?)
