| Inexpensive pump for basement dehumidifier? I have a 3 or 4 year old LG Dehumidifier in my basement that works well. I forget how big the tank is, but its somewhere around a gallon or a gallon and a half. Since I got it, I've been going down to the basement once a day (in the summer) and twice a week (in the winter) to empty it, and pour it down the basement bathroom sink. The basement is a finished one, and it doesn't get overly humid down there. I did run my patch panel in there and down there sits the router as well as some other networking equipment, so I like to run the dehumidifier all year round.
I noticed the unit has some ability to route the water out via rubber tubing, instead of collecting in the unit itself. It would be nice to automatically pipe the water into the sink, but the issue is the sink sits 3 feet above the unit, which sits on the floor.
Can anyone recommend a pump to use, so I can hookup some 3/4" tubing to the pump from the unit, and then pump the water into the sink so I don't have to empty the unit manually? I don't mind doing it manually, but when I'm away for a week or two, it could come in handy. This is all assuming it can be done.
Something around $100 would work, unless this stuff costs more than that in which case I'd think about it. The basement is finished, but in 1981 decor, and we plan on redoing it in a few years, at which time I'm going to try and put in some fixed "permanent" solution AC/dehumidifer, etc.

 | reply to Jeffrey Get a simple condensate pump, should work fine. I have my dehumidifier set to drain into AC/s unit condensate pump. Just make sure you plug both in the same circuit |

Probably about $125 for both |

 | reply to Jeffrey since you plan on redoing the basement anyhow for the mean time is there any way you can build up / raise the dehumidifier up off the floor and get it so its above the level of the sink drain. Then simply run the hose to sink drain problem solved at little or no cost. |

| reply to Warzau I probably should have mentioned it, but there is no great place to elevate the dehumidifier within 10 feet of the bathroom, add another 4 feet to the sink. That is the simplest and cheapest solution, but unfortunately the least do-able. I could go closer to the bathroom, but I'd have to make a 180 degree turn with tubing from the elevated position to get in the bathroom door. I might look at it again and see what I can do with respect to a gravity situation. -- He used to say that soul shine, is better than sunshine, better than moonshine, damn sure better than rain.

| reply to Jeffrey Might want to check out Surplus Center, I've never purchased that kind of pump from them but have had good luck with other stuff, pumps and fans.

| reply to Jeffrey A condensate pump is the best answer as already given. Around $65 at H.D. Less on ebay. It is a shame that the setup only requires 10 feet of distance. At least the pump will also give you flexibility about where to send it. -- nohup rm -fr /& |

Isn't there a floor drain? |
|
 | reply to Jeffrey Save yourself the money of a condensate pump - which is only something that will eventually breakdown.
Put the dehumidifier in a room with a floor drain. As long as there are open doors between the rooms in the basement, the humidity level throughout the basement will tend to equalize. |

mityfowlPremium join:2000-11-06 Dallas, TX 1 edit | reply to Jeffrey I actually sleep in that basement (it's real nice, everything finished, carpet) when I visit. about 4 times a year so I want it nice. I think I bought him a LG dehumidifier but wouldn't bet on it. It has a humidity gauge/setting. Hose connection. He's about 90 so I have to keep it almost thought free.
My best guess is he couldn't lift more thare than 30lbs once so I don't wan't him messing with a 1/2 cubic ft of water. |

Lurch77Premium join:2001-11-22 Oconto, WI kudos:4 | reply to Jeffrey We use Little Giant brand pumps when we have to use a condensate pump. They are very reliable, and easy to hook up. Some models can even be hooked up with a float switch to shut down the system if the pump stops working for some reason. Get one of these and you should be fine. »www.amazon.com/dp/B000AHT78O/?ta···00AHT78O |

1) You haven't slept here.
2) No floor drain that I'm aware of in the middle of the basement. I suppose I could route it to the basement shower, but I do use that shower a few times a week after working outside. I don't ever use the sink. Can't remember the last time I turned it on.
3) It's not the weight that is annoying me, it's the minimal inconvenience. -- He used to say that soul shine, is better than sunshine, better than moonshine, damn sure better than rain.
