It is unlikely that Verizon will make any changes to the FiOS equipment in any given central office unless they are running out of capacity in that CO or are expanding the territory served from that CO. If the area where you reside is currently served by BPON, in all likelihood, that is the way it will remain for the foreseeable future. So go door-to-door and start signing up your neighbors for FIOS :)

Yes! But only if they have, or are willing to install GPON in your C/O, with a GPON OLT, and provide a GEPON split from what I have been told by engineers. MY C/O has NO GPON! Also I would have to pay for the truck run to come and upgrade my ONT. I told them let's ROLL. No Go NO GPON OLT!

Who wants GPON In the Washington, DC Metro Area? A post that leads to a Vote! I can't be the only one. What if Verizon finds out it takes off? Even if only one area? Might not be my area, but one could hope. I am in South Germantown, MD, and CAN NOT get a split for GPON! Really upset over the whole thing! I think Montgomery County, MD is a Very Large County, and if you include the Washington, DC Metro area, that also includes everything around the Capitol Beltway, I believe it is a huge market area. I can't be the only one that wants to go faster. Zoom Zoom!

I'm planning on switching to residential from business, I could be getting 300mb/s for the price I'm paying for 150mb/s right now. Neither nycdave, the other VZ reps on this forum, or anyone from the FSC has a clue when the business side will get Quantum so there's no point in continuously throwing $100 away each month. I just hope I'll still be able to continue to do 40TB/month with no complaints on residential.

I regularly max out my 50mbps, even during the evenings. With CDNs and other cloud services, it happens with almost every download, though it might take up to 5 seconds to ramp up to the max. Unless there was an epic sale, Steam has always, always used up all my free bandwidth.

My first PC was before there was a PC. I dug deep in my wallet to bump 128K to 192K on a Heathkit S100 CP/M. Later, it took a while for me to have to bump up to 640K on my 286. I spent more of my efforts on CPU and graphics.

One reason mega memory is useful is to have multiple tasks running. Even today I have never really gotten away from my roots where I do one thing, close out then go do something else.

99.9999% of the rest of the servers on the internet will not serve you data that fast.

A lot of servers are faster than you would think... Not to mention i haved maxed 300 megabits all the time on well seeded torrents and >150 mbit pretty much all the time on usenet as well.

so you can think what you want..yes for the casual browsing and what not its not using it to full extent but as i said with the file transferring we are sure getting our moneys worth and getting that speed and experiencing no slow downs when we are doing that and other things at the same time

with a home office you want to be able to have that plus not affect the everyday bs so with all the bs going and having to big files to send back and forth its well worth it

dont see how..yes theres decent amount of excess but not even close to that with all the file transferring and downloading that is done both for business and personal..its a home office as well

several reasons 2 desktop workstations 1 personal computer 1 personal laptop mobiles devices all up at the same time...plus ps3,sending files back and forth..as well as downloading alot more speed to go around around..and the deal we are getting made it worth it we were originally going 75/35 but they gave us this for 10 dollars more

I didn't realize there could be an illegitimate reason for ethernet over coax ;), originally all installs were ethernet and using the verizon issued router. I have always had ethernet and it does perform better for a host of reasons.

The benefit for most homeowners though of MOCA is that they can make use of the existing cable infrastructure to network their homes with simple MOCA adapters (ECB2200) or additional MOCA routers.

From a pure performance standpoint ethernet is better and has considerably more bandwidth than MOCA currently does and like Houk. stated there is less jitter and typically less latency.

The average homeowner though will never notice this much less make it an issue.

I had ethernet on 35/35. I am sorry but yes there *is* a reason to run ethernet. More reliable and way less jitter not to mention lower latency.

And, depending on when the tech was trained, he may have not had/paid attention to the training regarding making up an ethernet cable. These speed tiers are only a recent development, so the focus in training when it was done may not have been on ethernet.

the guy wasnt very confident he actually pretty much tried to convince me not to go 150/65 so he didnt have to do the ethernet

he said this is the only 2nd time hes doing a setup for this tier then tried to say most of the time you dont even get that speed etc....

im on the 3rd floor ont is in the garage he replaced that and said that he should put the ethernet over the roof to the back to the room i have my router in

went with that plan even though i would have preferred it inside

the whole day he wasnt confident in the job he was doing he was on the phone several times saying things like i hope it works etc...

by the time we got the ethernet through the hole he drilled he had someone else come to finish up the process with the ethernet and router and that guy basically the same way as the other guy but a little more confident but with setting up the ethernet he had to look at a image of the wire colors on his blackberry to make sure he got it right

Happens to a lot of people and it happened to me. Listen to what people say on here and just let it be. The tech that goes over will know what to do and will hopefully be able to change everything out the same day for you.
