Why would you leave Shaw over that? Look at the competitors, Telus doesn't let you bridge the Actiontec regardless of the plan. They don't give you access to DHCP ranges, DNS, etc. Switch to Telus over the hardware device is a ridiculous move, IMO. Their hardware is even worse than Shaw's new gateways.

Why would I leave Shaw over that?
-Their wifi modem coverage sucks (i was paying 5/month for it)
-my router runs dd-wrt (thats how i bought it)
- Who said i switched to Telus?
I switched to Westnet in Calgary-
upload is about 30 times faster than Shaw....
WestNet have not ever been rude to be on the phone. Its owned by people who were tired of rude and cocky service of the incumbents.
They even include a free STATIC IP number.

Ask here or call Shaw and ask for a Motorola 5102, which is a modem only. I have a two static's on Shaw Biz, with the above modem and my own hardware after. I believe that ISP you are referring to is nothing more than a reseller for the big boys .

5102 is exactly what i wanted they said were not being able to offer that.the modem i did have was progarmmed into bridge modem but ONCE In a while it would reset into router mode. Not good when your a business customer... paying 300 a month.

I am a business customer, and when I had the Cisco it never switched back to router mode. I had reset it a few times, as well. The 5102 is readily available, and you can get one for free from a few users on here. It pays to ask around, however to each their own. I haven't had one issue with my Shaw Biz service. The Cisco worked wonderful after it was bridged for moi.

yes to each their own - yeah i use to like shaw back in the day...

this happened ALOT - and worst problem is sometimes they would make us go and power cycle it ok when you are at the office but not 200km away ......

I spoke with your IT tech onsite today. Shaw had a 1 hour outage where some of our modems switched from bridge mode to router mode.
The issue was corrected and all modems are back online.
We have credited your Shaw account for 1 full day for the outage.

reseller of the bigboys? what does that mean? Internet -networks connected to networks. As far as im concerned shaw does not offer 80 megabit upload so i am not sure if they are reseller. To be an internet company you have to connect to another internet company. They have their own peering points.

There is so little information about westlink.ca available, but I will try.

Do you get a public IP address? Or NAT'd address only?

I'm outside their coverage majority of the time, but I have been curious.
