rjruby join:2012-10-06 18064-9654 1 edit | [Phone] Caller ID Issue for Cell Phone Calls I recently went from Verizon to RCN for my internet and phone service.
The internet service has been great and the phone service has been great except for one Caller ID issue. My Verizon phone number was ported over to RCN.
The Caller ID name and phone number are displayed correctly on all my phones and other devices (Dish satellite receivers) for calls I receive from landline phones.
However, for calls I receive from cell phones, I receive the phone number correctly but the name is always "CELL PHONE PA". This happens for all cell phone carriers (AT&T, Verizon, TMobile, etc). When I was on Verizon I would get the caller's name displayed correctly.
Is this something that can be corrected?
Thanks.

rcncaresEmiliePremium,VIP join:2012-01-04 Gainesville, VA | This was Engineering's response: Our switches do a caller id query on every inbound call we receive. It presents the information in the database maintained by our LDBI that is uploaded by carrier that owns the number. Currently, there are no indications that we have a systemic caller ID issue.
I asked him what that meant exactly and he said that the name info that we present on a call is what is made available from our database provider, Neutsar (formerly Targus) and we have no control over it.
I hope this explains why you are not seeing the names.

This is true now that I have RCN phone service, and was also true when I had VERIZON landline service. It is not unique to the RCN phone service.
I know that on VERIZON cell phones, the account owner can access the account and specify what they want to appear on the caller ID display. |

The facts are that I have 3 cell phones on my AT&T account and my brother in-law has 3 cell phones on his T-Mobile account.
All of these six phones had their user names associated with their phone's caller ID info so that for the last several years their names were displayed on my caller ID when they called my land-line phone with Verizon.
Since porting my Verizon phone number to RCN their names have been replaced with CELL PHONE PA.
There must be a difference between Verizon and RCN on their data source for this information. |

If you are willing to provide that information, please do it through private message to me and not on the public part of the forum.
Thanks Emilie |
