Re: [AB] Tried to get shaw to bridge the DPC3825 modem/router

Basically the BB50+ plans are on the DOCSIS3 network, which use the modem-router combination units. So those plans all have the option to replace the router firmware with bridging one.

The Extreme and High Speed plans are supposed to be on the DOCSIS2 network, which means they give you a standard DOCSIS2 modem only. However they've been handing out DOCSIS3 modems most likely because Shaw has them in stock. Unfortunately, those plans were never supposed to be on the DOCSIS3 network, so their systems are not capable of provisioning the bridged firmware onto the modem.

You'll have to find a way to change your modem to the old DOCSIS2 ones.

One would think though, that the billing code to bridge a modem, would not take much work to change the dependancy rules to allow this.

But why? Someone, somewhere knows, but nobody seems to know who or where that person is.

I see well if that is the case then I guess I cannot really complain. I ll just have to hook up my router the way other ppl have been doing.
