After 7 years, have to say goodbye to FIOS....

Way back in September '05 I got FIOS internet and added TV in February '07 when it became available. It's been great. I really am going to miss it.

But, I am relocating to Florida next month and have to part ways with Verizon. The house I bought is in an AT&T area, and U-Verse is not available. My options are AT&T POTS/DSL with DirecTV, or Brighthouse for cable internet, TV, and phone.

It looks like I'm going with the Brighthouse option. Their service seems decent and their support is supposed to be pretty good. But, they don't offer expanded storage for DVR and other things that I really enjoy as part of my FIOS service. The low capped upload speeds are something I really am not happy about. I think 40/5 service is the best I can get.

At least I can do the MyDomain thing to keep my Verizon email addresses that the wife and I have used for 7 years.

It's been real...

I understand your dilemma, I've had fios for just over 6 years now. I'm retiring to southern Or. next month. My only real choice for internet and tv is Charter but it's a much better "living" environment than what I have now.

Good Luck in your new location.

If I ever move again, the available ISPs where I move will be near the top of my priority list. Actually it will be the top priority.

Thanks. I'm also going to have a much better lifestyle, so giving up FIOS is really a small price to pay.

I'll still have access to FIOS TV, somewhat. I am parking my Hava (like a Slingbox) at my brother's place so I can still watch all the local sports and other stuff I would otherwise miss down there.

So I take it you didn't move to the Tampa area? Because, doesn't Tampa area have FIOS?

Thanks for the kind words...

I'll be 35 miles north of Tampa. Some of the houses I looked at closer to Tampa indeed had FIOS.

You should went south of Tampa, I had Bright-house and my wife use to work for Bright-house and all I can tell you is it's no FIOS. I think I would rather have Direct TV then brighthouse TV,I would use Bright house for internet and home phone.

Good luck!

Same for me at least for past few years and believe it will remind the same for at least a decade.

Ah... I'm right next door in Pasco. For sure the best option will be Brighthouse. Hernando AT&T is still back in the 20th century.

Tampa Bay Brighthouse is pretty decent, and customer service is very good. You'll almost always get right to a live local rep when calling, without any long hold queue. You can get 40/5 for under $100 even on stand-alone service. So it could be worse.

You picked a good time of year to move down... just starting our "nice weather" season.

If I moved to Florida, it would be to Broward county (Ft. Lauderdale/Pompano Beach/Deerfield Beach area). Pretty decent down there. I took a trip down there in August of 2011 to clean out grandma's old house before it was sold (and not by choice as her ex-husband's estate forced the sale in court).

Cable provider down there is Comcast (like we have here in Springfield, MA) and they have pretty generous speeds (up to 105/20).

I wish I still lived in Iowa; Everything there from rent and groceries to Cable TV is much cheaper in Iowa (especially with an overbuilder in town).

I tried. I went down with a list of 30 houses to look at. The majority were in Pasco county, a few in Hillsborough, and a few in Hernando. Things just worked out the way they did. I bought a house, no turning back now.
