I have never lost cable tv/internet during a power outage, and during long power outages I have seen generators hooked up to the different boxes on the telephone pole. So I assume that means Charter has some sort of batteries/power sources that keep their remote equipment up, then the generators get called in when those start to run low on juice.

I don't believe that even for a second!! The part about you having NEVER lost cable tv/internet, that is.

My brother has Comcast and DOES have a modem with battery backup. We BOTH hate that "feature" as any time you want to do anything, you have to become a contortionist trying to reach around modem and stick a paper clip in that little hole to reset the stupid thing! His modem is not right out in the open where you can access it easily.

Everybody has cell phones now a days, so battery backup is almost rather redundant. Probably lucky if the battery even lasts 10 minutes also.

I ended up buying the battery from eBay. It is now longer listed from the seller I purchased from, but it is available from others for MUCH less than purchasing through Charter.

The battery I received appears to be OEM, and I haven't had any problems with it.

If you want an answer to a Charter technical question why not use the Charter Direct forum? Also don't do it on a week-end when no one form Charter reads these forums.

Is this normal for Charter to install VOIP service in a house with no backup battery? I told them they should call Charter and talk about it. Thought I'd ask here tho.

Seems bad as if there power goes out they have no phone service. They are also in a area where there is no cell phone service as well due to the location of it.
