Re: Optic internet speed increase coming soon?

quote:
15?? Im stuck on 6!!! Like I said earlier...... hopefully Telus does something by 2020!!

What do you know, all the planets must have aligned at some point, and suddenly turbo 25 was an option.

The install worked OK, except my existing modem (V1000H) was not working on the new port (?), so a different one was introduced.

Tech was polite and efficient. He installed a POTS splitter. He also mentioned that the cable from the house to the pole down the street will need replacing, as the old one is ancient.

Moral of the story, don't lose faith. It took a long wait to get 25mbps service though.

Not really. It was released to the public today.
Cap is still 500GB, which is odd. I thought we would have bumped it to 750 or 1000GB.
I'm getting 52/11 on Speedtest.net.

To the other poster, I am using an ALU -> Netgear WNDR4000. No issues.

I'm on a single line VDSL (no bonding.)

Its not announced on the website but I did see 1 communication today stating that anyone could call and ask for Optik50 and if you qualify then they can place an order.

Indeed. CARE can check your line.

Apparently, even if you're on GPON/ETTS you'll still need a tech out...

Mind you when the tech was booked to install it for me, he just had to do a software order (single VDSL, no bonding) and it started working.

Bonus of this 'ordeal' was that I sourced a tech that has reliable access to ALUs. Win.

Is it possible to get High Speed 50 or is only Optik 50 being offered at this time?

I don't have any TV service.

Thanks

I'm on optik 15 and want to upgrade to 25,.. but unfortunately Telus has no "ports" open,.. Can't even get placed on a waiting list which sucks, cause I have to call every 1-2weeks to check if I can upgrade.

Symtex, is this just a single line upgrade type thing at the moment? So for someone like me who can't even get Turbo i'm still waiting?

I started a chat on Monday and unfortunately the rep I chatted with mistakenly read the wrong line or something like that when I ask if I could get Turbo and the 3hd/1sd profile and told me it was available to me. I started another chat yesterday after it the upgrade hadn't gone through yet after 3 days to find out I'm still waiting. Thanks in advance

So what does the tech have to do exactly? Some of you have mentioned that it is all software.

Currently have Optik Turbo. Ordered Optik 50 today, just wondering how long the install might take and what access the tech will require.

I called and was told it's only available in "pilot" areas .. PG (BC) and I forget the other place . Rolls eyes

Re. dejavu, my experience...

Telus Chat: I asked if I can get Telus HS50, they said no, it has to be Optic50. I said I believe both are offered and after some investigation they agreed.

Telus Chat: I asked for a modem rather than a modem/router combo with HS50. They said I'd have to talk to the Telus tech.

Telus Tech: No, it has to be a modem/router combo. I told them I only need a modem. The tech said I have to talk to Billing.

Telus Billing: After some chats they agreed I can have a "modem" but then asked if I knew the difference between a modem and a router. I told them "yes" and I was sent back to the same Tech.

Telus Tech: After the Tech discussed with Billing, they agreed it MAY be possible, but I'd have to work with the tech during the installation visit - not hopeful as it's a big deal for me. I did note Shaw offers this service.

Pretty much the same as my Telus25 experience.

We'll see....

Optik50 can be provide under two type of technology : Loop bonding and Single line. Prince George and Edmonton are the Loop bonding trial region. Only the Actiontech V2000H is supported.

The communication when out yesterday and not everyone is aware/trained to handle. For the single line Optik 50, TELUS only support the Actiontech V1000H officially. It technically available to anyone who qualify for it. I stress qualify here. I still believe personally TELUS needs to do a better of qualifying more user for the higher end product. I won't get into the details about our service qualification. This is a battle that needs to be fought internally and not in an online forums.

This is why I will sometime step in and help user which I believe deserved a better customer experience from TELUS. I do that of my own kindness and I can't always help everyone.

Note : I do believe it works with the Alcatel modem but stop harassing care agent. There is nothing they can do about it. Tech hands are tied. They will deliver an Actiontech V1000H. You might be lucky depending on the tech or the region. It possible they have some in the truck. It doesn't hurt to ask if that's what you want but don't get mad at them. They don't get to decide.

I have the Actiontech V2000H and loop bonding at home. Like many user I am not a big fan of the combo hardware but it does work. I use my other router as an Access Point. I am not running any web, mail or any type of server at home so I am not that concern about the advance capability that a modem and a separate router would give me.

In a nutshell, I'll break it down.

If you require bonding to get Optik/HS 50, you need an Actiontec V2000H.
If you are on GPON/ETTS, you can continue to use your Actiontec or Dlink 3810, but you can use whatever router you want that will work for your setup.
If you are on VDSL and your single clearance qualifies for 50, then you can use your Actiontec V1000H or your ALU + router setup.

It is nigh impossible to get a CARE agent to get you an ALU. They are very difficult to get. Best thing would be if you do have a tech come out and you are on VDSL, ask them if they can get one for you. But no promises on that one.

As Symtex stated earlier, only Actiontec hardware is officially supported. But I know personally that my ALU + Netgear work perfectly with my Optik setup.

Hopefully this clarifies things.

edit:

One nice thing about the new profiles (at least on my line) is that I am provisioned at 76Mb/s. So watching all 3HD + 1SD plus using the internet (at least on the download side) does not negatively affect my internet speeds.

Here's my speed with 2HD shows going on at the same time.

And for you lucky bastages on GPON/ETTS, because there's no default profile, one of my co-workers on GPON (HS only) is getting 74Mb/s down / 14Mb/s up. I hate him.

Thanks Symtex, so what's the big deal about bridging the Actiontec? Is it the risk that the techs will have to address dealing with home owner routers?

Don't get me wrong, I love Telus25 (in my opinion a consistent and superior service) and would not go back to Shaw but why not cater to a wider market that need a higher end services?

Like you said, your battle to fight I guess...

Thanks e_phils, At least I know that someone nearby has ordered it.
4 calls , 4 different agents... "what's optik50", "that's only a trial in Edmonton", "can't be done", "maybe some time in the future", " Here's 5$ off a month because you were given the wrong info on-line and people shouldn't be posting that it's available"

Hey I got a 5$ discount for 6 months, but that's not what I wanted...

Wow Telus really need to do a better job of this, didn't they know that there would be ALOT of pent up demand for this ?
It seems that every product launch is the same thing... a mess.

I know that's a little harsh, and truth be told, my service (once I replaced that $&@#$PH^^# Actiontech,) has been rock solid , the techs and CARE agents have been extremely helpful, even when I breached the laws of physics and put 2 ... yes 2... 430's on the same account at the same time but ..... I can see the DLSAM from my window, I was trained at 78/xx etc... ... I know Optik50 is available, but no...
It's only for a Langley/PG and Edmonton.

Symtex, I really do appreciate your every post ( I like the technical stuff myself) (actually I appreciate all the Telus guys who post here) , because without you most of us would be flying blind when we deal with Telus.

Thank you

Wow, the seas have parted.... The stars have aligned,,, and the ICBC has lowered it's rates.... ( well ok that just never going to happen)

Finally my 5th CSR and " Yes we will be there on the 19th to install optik50.... " Who knew it could be so easy I did ask about an ALU just to push the boundaries of space and time... "what's an ALU"
Ha ha ... too funny.. I'll chat with the tech and see if he's in good mood. I guess that means I'll have to dust off the Actiontec and plug it in before he arrives. rolls eyes

I'm going to start poking around for an ALU. If I manage to find out, I'll definitely test the new 50Mb plan.
