[Speed] Arris TM 722G or leased Arris TM822G

I currently have own an Arris TM722G but I tried out the Arris TG862 gateway. Had a tech in my house on after Direct Support saw an issue with the signal on their end. Tech was not pleasant to deal with, was extremely rude, and acted like I was bothering him and did not want to do his job. He said the signal was fine but replaced a piece of coax going to the tv in the basement. I asked for a new modem and I saw a TM852G on his truck but he refused to give it to me. He would only give me a TM722 which I already own. He did not know what 8x4 channel bonding was. I called 1800Comcast shortly after and the call center rep was sympathetic and scheduled another truck roll. Got a call from the Westfield central office (headend, Westfield phone number on caller ID) and got a senior engineer on the phone who provisioned my TM722 so I could save the $7 per month fee.

The fact of the matter is that do what the customer wants. Like when you go to the barbershop or salon, the barber/hairdresser should do what the customer wants provided it is possible (such as the customer having enough hair for the style he/she wants) and not what the barber/hairdresser wants. Same with cable techs, if they have a new modem on the truck that has the latest specs, let the customer have it. Some tech-savvy customers (like me) are picky and some don't care if they bring an old DCT2000 (which dates back to when I was in high school, late '90s, early 2000's) or a DOCSIS 2.0/1.1 modem into their home. The guy had the modem on the truck.

The big question is there a performance difference between a 4x4 channel bonding modem (which I own, Arris TM722G) or should I try to lease an Arris TM822G modem. We have 8x4 channel bonding available in this area although the senior engineer said that not all the nodes (CMTS) in Springfield (MA) have 8x4 channel bonding and my node is only one of a handful that do.

On the other hand, the Apple AirPort Extreme modem performs better than the Comcast gateway.

I wish I still lived in Iowa; Everything there from rent and groceries to Cable TV is much cheaper in Iowa (especially with an overbuilder in town).

There probably are not many TM822G's in stock yet, and Comcast will want to use the TM722G's first.

As for the TG 852G, that is a wireless gateway, to be avoided like the plague!

I would rather have the TM722G along with a quality router, than mess with Comcast's wireless gateway solutions, even if the difference is a 4x4 D3 platform versus an 8x4.

If/when Comcast comes to an arrangement with Amazon to sell "authorized" Arris TM822G eMTAs I would definitely consider going that route.

I am starting to see TM822 modems on Amazon but I would not trust buying one there as it could be stolen/unreturned Comcast equipment. Any subscription based electronics such as modems or Sirius radios I prefer to buy factory sealed at brick and mortar stores like Best Buy, Target, or Walmart.

If the item is blacklisted by the service provider and the seller won't take it back, then you are out your money.
