Blast from the past

First, Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

I was floating around the interwebs and got stuck on a few episodes of an oldie but a goodie WKRP. So I thought I would share it with my fellow Canadians in the holiday spirit.

This is NOT made up.

An Arkansas town DOES drop turkeys out of an airplane every year, and has done it for decades.

Here:

The WKRP episode was supposedly inspired by these Arkansas assholes.

(Arkansas assholes---now there is a redundant term!)

Canadians remember WKRP very fondly. Never really understood why that was. Possibly that it was simply an incredibly well written show. There were very few "turkeys."

I was lucky enough to watch the show during its original run, with the original music. It's too bad that excessive greed by artists and record labels made it impossible to preserve the original music. I remember the Pink Floyd "Animals" segment very well.

I knew it from the first couple of notes, long before "big buy" brought it up.
Probably the last Pink Floyd Album I ever bought.

I don't think there was much in the way of sales when it came to the DVD's,without the original music, it just wasn't the same.

I'm STILL waiting for the 60's Batman series to show up on DVD, probably never happen, with Fox owning the show and WB owning Batman.

No, I didn't. Honest... I ran out of gas. I... I had a flat tire. I didn't have enough money for cab fare. My tux didn't come back from the cleaners. An old friend came in from out of town. Someone stole my car. There was an earthquake.......

It was like the turkeys mounted a counter attack, it was almost like they were…organized.

WKRP wasn't the most complicated show around, but it was well-written and the actors and actresses played their parts well. When I heard that it was going to released on DVD, I was interested in picking it up........until I found out all the music had been replaced with nameless dreck due to the license having expired on using copyright music.

Imagine how much the artists involved could have made if a deal to license it could have been worked out. I would think the sales of the DVDs would have been pretty good, given the lack of quality programming on the airwaves these days.

Yep, that's happened to a lot of TV shows. Shows like this, the music is relevant to the show.

Another one I can recall where the music change adversely affected the show was Quantum Leap where half the episodes have had their music replaced. In one episode, the original music was relevant to the plot itself! And in other episodes, Sam is dancing to the real music yet it was replaced with 'nameless dreck' for the DVD.

Some TV airings still have original music of some shows though, while some DVD's don't... I haven't figured that one out yet.

I wouldn't go as far as to say it's the artists either, depends, who owns the publishing rights.

Re: Blast from the past

The other sad part is WKRP could have made a killing in syndication ...reruns would have paid infinitely better than the first run. Sadly, it never happened because of those copyright issues.

WKRP is in syndication. It's on all the time here. Has been for years.

Next episode is Sunday at 9 PM: "Love Returns" - Andy may have to leave WKRP when he rekindles his love for a touring rock star.
