Actually you don't rent a modem for Charter. Renting implies a rental fee which there is none. Oh by the way I'm a Charter customer and I use my own modem.

Grande Communications also requires their docsis 3 customers to either rent the modem, or purchase the modem from them. Customers are not allowed to used modems purchased elsewhere.
