network attached storage device

I am running ubuntu 9.10 any how my question is I have a seagate backup plus drvie that is my nas(netwok attached storage device when I copy file to the NAS and unplug the storage device and plug it back in data is gone in the file any idea why it wou do that before I unplug the nas the data is still their.

Do you unmount the drive before detaching it?

you're probably unplugging before the data is moved from the cache to the disk. Is unplugging the proper shutdown procedure for the NAS?

i have the nas plugged into to the usb port on my router i just unplugged it one time to see what would happen when i plugged it back in the files i had on the hard drive were gone. The drive i have is seagate 1 terabit backup plus drive

Read the manual on the router to see how it handles storage devices. It's not NAS, per se, it's a USB storage device and the router is managing the mounting, caching, flushing.

Not a Linux issue.
