Re: Savious Makes an MMOsaid by TheThing:how has WoW changed dailies? Instead of daily quests being an optional part of the game like always before, they opted to make daily quests a mandatory requirement in order to progress in end game raiding/dungeons. You have to farm rep (through dailys) to purchase gear. We're not just talking completing like 5 quests here. When Blizzard increases the amount of daily quests you can do a day to 48, that's when I don't bother anymore. |

Griefing happens in WoW, yea. But only terrible terrible players will get griefed repeatedly. Ive had my body camped in WoW hundreds of times. I could never understand how people cant get away... If open world PvP is mandatory for progress, or unavoidable due to no flagging, realm choice, etc., you're going to lose out on a significant chunk of the possible player population from the start that don't care for PvP or only like to participate in it when they're in the mood. If your goal is a game where PvP is the main/only focus, I guess that would be fine, but there's a reason WoW et al. have PvE and PvP servers, and several other games limit PvP to specific areas. |

Hmm, good point. I just liked the idea of having conflict on the border zones and having quest that actually involved players completing missions involving each other. I was picturing more of a 1v1 type of deal, with each player having a few NPC's on their side that represented similiar classes as you would see in game. I suppose it could be made so that these quest arent mandatory, but would provide significant benefit over traditional leveling options. |

Im picturing something that has a more massive and epic feeling attached to it for later leveling than "collect 8 hooty blobs and 5 zippy zaps" or "kill 7 diddly whops and 5 dingle dangles".
Im picturing the border zones to be full of action, like when you first stepped through the portal starting BC. Explosions and firefights all across the border, jets flying over head doing bombing runs, things like that. |

hmm required PVP at some point is not a good recipe for success. Or at least I read it as requiring PVP to get to the max level and that will never really sell. |

I think I can safely say I'll never play another MMO that relies on the holy trinity crutch.
There's no need for it, other than laziness. It's insulting to players' intelligence and kills brain cells. It interferes with gaming with friends, and adds hassle to casual playstyles. Time to let it die and come up a new paradigm or mechanic. |

We did this topic before. Albeit its been a awhile ago and I probably only remember it because I posed the question at the beginning of the year. » What would your MMO be like? That said. I would still like an open character design ala Skyrim. This parts important, however it would be impossible to balance, but would accommodate different playstyles for different folks. Which could result in a large population of "Battle Mages" though I would hope that more people would just find a style they like, or even just have fun experimenting with. Questing.... I like how its being done in GW2, so I'd like to keep it simple like that. Though I think it could be a little more dynamic. Say for instance, incorporate factions into the mix as well as an alignment system. So now, instead of just saying the villagers, you could be attacking the villagers along side the centaurs or bandits. Assuming you have the right alignment and factions to make it work. That would make for some hellafun escort quests if you could be raiding the escorts instead of strictly defending them. I know not everyone is a fan of PvP... myself included, but I actually like this idea. |
