Careful, though, for the roe are usually harder to extract than the buck. A warren of dust bunnies can cause quite a bit of needless heat build-up. -- Show off that hardware: join Team Discovery and Team Helix |

Dust is a headache. I usually blow 'em out every three, or four months, depending on the weather has been.
I haven't had to clean as much, since I installed my liquid CPU cooler. Seems the radiator doesn't collect quite as much dust as a HS does. Of course the other components, do (vid card, and PSU.) -- Come fold for a cure with us @ Team Helix.

Of course the other components, do (vid card, and PSU.) I'm calling BS on that, at least in my experiance. My h80 makes a great dust filter for the rest of my computer. Noticed it was starting to run a little warm all the time and found that. I have no idea how long I had been using the h80 before needing to clean it though. |

Even with a light amount, temps stay well within limits. Unlike the HS with just a smattering of dust, that seemed to choke off any and all air flow, at least the radiator passes some air. -- Come fold for a cure with us @ Team Helix.

I'm feeling real ornery due to a real bad copd flareup and the fact that my doctor tells me that if I don't have considerable improvement by Friday, he is chucking my behind into the hospital. -- Hey Buddy, can you spare a cycle? I am very finicky about cleaning my home and dusting everything. So a few months ago, my PS3 (my folder) fans just took off running at high speed. Which it never did before and I couldn't figure out why. Looking on the outside of the case, there was no sign of any dust build up on the vents. It took me a long time, but eventually I figured I'd just try blasting the vents so I got a can of pressurized air, and started blasting into the vents.
OH MY GOD! I could not believe the dust that came flying out of it. I just kept blasting the air until the dust stopped. I haven't had the fans rev up since. |

Relkin join:2006-03-05 nightmare | reply to rusdi I do know my old computer with a hyper 212 was running longer than the H80 one. When I opened it up to mess with the vid card it had way less dust than the H80. Also worth mentioning an all in one liquid cooler set up like the manufacturer recommends with the fans acting as an intake and not output gets exposed to much more dust than a heatsink inside the computer i think. So again in my experience the liquid coolers are no better when it comes to dust collection. If anything it made a great filter for my computer. The vid card in that computer hardly had any build up. |

rusdiAmerican VPremium,MVM join:2001-04-28 Flippin, AR kudos:1 | I believe there are many contributing factors to this. For example, case size & layout. Mine is essentially a media case. Quite thin, and not a lot of room inside. It sports an i7 2600K, along with a big vid card. Took some "creative" modification to get everything crammed in, (including the H-60 cooler & radiator). »[F@H] Cool Running!! With the stock HSF, it required blowing out, every couple of months. The HS would literally get a layer of dust & the CPU would start throttling down. After I installed the H-60, as I said, I can now go longer between cleaning. Maybe four - six months before temps start rising, and it's easier to clean. -- Come fold for a cure with us @ Team Helix.

| said by rusdi:I believe there are many contributing factors to this. Mostly the contributing factors involved lead to a single metric point of concern: pressure differential.
Negative pressure can lead to higher dust loads with faster air exchanges. Positive pressure can lead to lower dust loads with slower air exchanges. Cooling profiles can be set up for either and be effective depending on what turbulence is needed in which areas of the case. Generally speaking... a case with a video card that exhausts back into the case is better with slight negative pressure while a case with a video card that exhausts out is better with slight positive pressure. If warrens of dust bunnies are developing quickly, however, the venture past homeostasis is too great. -- Show off that hardware: join Team Discovery and Team Helix |
