At what point in the process does the decryption happen. I thought that this happened at the cable box with the card but that is obviously not the case as the channels are being sent over QAM as 1 TV has a set top box and 1 TV has the coaxial plugged directly into it getting family cable channels.

If you completely cancel TV then CV will install TV signal trap/filter on your line to outright block it.

The locals are sent in the clear over QAM, but you must be in an area that hasn't gone fully digital yet and are receiving the analog versions of the other channels. Once your area goes fully digital all you will get is broadcast basic over clear qam.

Except on the NYC systems where everything is encrypted.
