Subject: [statscheck] Stats/Server Overload on xxxx.xxxx.com Date: Oct 9, 2012 10:59 PM
IMPORTANT: Do not ignore this email. This is cPanel stats runner on xxxx.xxxx.com! While processing the log files for user QQQQ, the cpu has been maxed out for more than a 6 hour period. The current load/uptime line on the server at the time of this email is 22:59:17 up 152 days, 14 min, 0 users, load average: 4.54, 4.66, 4.62 You should check the server to see why the load is so high and take steps to lower the load. If you want stats to continue to run even with a high load; Edit /var/cpanel/cpanel.config and change extracpus to a number larger then 0 (run /usr/local/cpanel/startup afterwards to pickup the changes). -- 1/22/2012 Delegate Count Newt 25 | Romney 14 | Ron Paul 10 | Santorum 8

The numbers represent the system load averages for the previous 1, 5, and 15 minutes. Each .01 is 1% of the total processing power, so in an ideal world you desire numbers under 1. Your first value of 4.54 (1 minute average) represents a processor that is overloaded approximately 454%. This isn't automatically a bad thing if it isn't constantly running at that level, but can start to lead to sluggishness or other noticeable issues.
Presuming that there isn't an obvious reason why you're system would be overloaded, the most likely culprit is a process that's stuck. Running the top command from a command line will tell you what processes are using the CPU the most. If there isn't a single process or a few processes that are obviously consuming all the CPU, then you're server may just be overloaded and moving to a faster server (dedicated) or having more resources allocated (VPS) can lower the numbers. | |
