Re: Savious Makes an MMO I think I can safely say I'll never play another MMO that relies on the holy trinity crutch.
There's no need for it, other than laziness. It's insulting to players' intelligence and kills brain cells. It interferes with gaming with friends, and adds hassle to casual playstyles. Time to let it die and come up a new paradigm or mechanic. | | I AMPremium join:2010-04-11 Ephrata, PA kudos:4 Reviews:

After playing GW2 for a few weeks, I've actually come to better understand the reasons behind the trinity, and why it would be so difficult to make challenging encounters in a game where it didn't exist. When there are no tanks and healers, and everyone is responsible for themselves, by necessity the skills between classes all blend together as everyone has to be able to do everything to at least some degree, and the encounters seem very bland.
I don't think it'd be impossible for someone to create a more compelling system without the trinity, but making it work seems extremely difficult. Ideally, I'd love to see a game that didn't use the trinity but somehow managed to provide challenging, interesting fights and characters. If my choice is between a trinity game that has challenging encounters and characters that feel different, and a game without it where everything is the same and the only way the encounters can be made more difficult is increasing mob HPs or giving them 1 or 2-shot abilities, I'll take the first every time. -- Brain: Pinky, are you pondering what I'm pondering?
