| [VoIP] Digital phone upstream issues My Grandmother has TWC Digital Phone and when I talk to her, she says she can hear me fine on her end but when she talks to me, there is a noticeable static on the line and the audio is very choppy. It does it both on my home phone (Comcast) and my iPhone (Verizon) and my mother notices it too on her Samsung Convoy II (Verizon). Grandma denies that there is an issue and says everyone else can hear her fine. I offered to call Time Warner to troubleshoot and I would troubleshoot it myself but I cannot go up there as my car is in poor condition and she refuses to have a tech come over.
If she says that everyone else can hear her fine and I am the only one having issues and it is occurring on both my house phone and cell phone, there must be something wrong with the backhaul or she may just plain be in denial (which older folks sometimes do when there is an issue with something).
I tried explaining the variables such as upstream, downstream, modem, EMTA, different carriers, different infrastructure (cell phone vs house phone), etc but she just does not understand technology like I do.
It could also be a link between Springfield MA and Biddeford ME (particularly because my aunt in Washington state can hear her fine according to Grandma).
She spends a lot of time in bed so she uses the same Panasonic cordless phone (that I bought her at Best Buy and I choose Panasonic based on advice from DSLR) for 95 percent of her calls. I personally wish she would get a medical alarm because she does have issues with falls buy fortunately she does not live alone (although her husband has Alzheimer's disease) . -- I wish I still lived in Iowa; Everything there from rent and groceries to Cable TV is much cheaper in Iowa (especially with an overbuilder in town). |
